Door lock not dropping
Offside rear passenger door lock is not locking when i blip the central locking. It's as though the mechanism has failed. When in the driver's seat and you press the door lock, it triggers the central locking - that lock doesn't lock then either. Pain in the proverbial.

Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone? Is this a broke mechanism? The lock does work when you push it and pull it. Perhaps the central locking servo has broken (I assume this is the mechanism).

Am i right in thinking that removing the door card is a tricky job that requires a bit of know how in order not to break clips etc.? Where do you start?
Thumbs Up

Try putting WD-40 or some other suitable lubricant around the lock button on the door ?

Are the door card plugs breakable? Where do you start when removing the door card?

I don't want to break the door card and find the dealers charge me for replacing it as it won't be covered under warranty.

I would however like to do the job myself.

Just to be extra pushy - would anyone have access to the Microcat pictures for the door car / door assembly?

Thanks everyone for the pooled wisdom (as usual).

Very Happy

110SEB, if it works when you push the button up and down, then how can the rod have come off?

Try that oil first!

Had that problem. First time I put some WD40 down the button and it worked. That did until I got the dealer to check it. It just needed a little adjustment. Second time the WD40 did not work. Took it to the dealer and they removed the trim. The wires had broken where it entered the door frame. As trim buttons broke they replaced the trim. The side/bottom trim clips can be replaced easily enough. It is the top corner on that breaks but it can be repaired with some small screws and refitted. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

You are at a high chance of breaking the clips (you can also break the retaining stud mounted into the trim) - from memory there is a plastic rivet in the corner you just pop out the centre.

Dont cut the rain plastic just peel it.

REmoving it to waxoyl the door is something i keep meaning to do - but despite removing them many times on older defenders ive owned, i cant bring myself to do it on the new one. Mike

Hmm, sounds to a greater or lesser extent a job with a high risk of ******g up the door card clips etc. I'm going to try the WD40 suggested by Daz and failing that contact the dealers...

For a third reason to see the door card plan, i'd like to readjust the resting position of the window winders to the 4 o'clock position rather than 8 o'clock position, so that gravity goes some way to keeping the windows from dropping an inch after a dozen shuts of the door.

These trim clips are terribly fragile. There are all sorts of reasons why we might need to remove trim - especially when installing accessories.

Is there any way we can just buy a job-load of the clips and then not worry about breaking them in the first place?

Anyone know the part number and how many different types of clip we'd need? One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

The clips are slide in to the slot on the trim type. Your dealer should have them. Them problem is the one in the top corner. This breaks off as a unit and stays in the door. To remedy this you screw it back on to the trim with a small scew. The trim is thickest at this point so the screw will hold. Once this is done you may refit the trim. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Just back from having the passenger door driver's side attended to. The central locking was not working on this door. The problem turned out to be the following.
Having removed the door trim' remove the top screws from the metal inner from so you can pull it out slightly. . On the lock side of the door( i.e. not the hinge side) there is a white plastic component that all the linkage arms meet in. This has a plastic centre around which the outer part swivels as the lock is actuated. Mine was not swivelling. It was necessary to remove the centre and run a file around the centre unit and the housing unit centre. It is a little tricky to remove the centre. Remove the centre screw first. You then align four lugs and push out. You can then lightly file the centre unit and centre of the housing and add a little grease. It should press back a lot easier then it pressed out! Refit the torx head screw and refit the metal panel and trim etc.
That's the best about independents they let you see what they are doing or in my case I end up holding tools and bits and pieces for the mechanic. They also let you go in and do stuff yourself if you feel up to it. Lots of advice and help if needed. Anyway I hope the above helps and is easily enough understood. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

My rear side (drivers side) door is the same, very stiff lock button and not working with the blipper.
I feel this might be an issue as thats at least 3 of us on this door?
