One has to laugh there are certain people on the forums who get around and get themselves all worked up when people point out they have the ability to make a right Ar$e of them selves, i used to get like it but woke up and realised there are better things to do! as the owner of a company who may or may not supply goods to Landrover Owners i would not go around chucking my toys all around the play room just because someone found something similar cheaper its their money their choice as far as i see it ! Yes i would love to have everyone wanting what we supply and fabricate come to us but life and business is like a giant cake with many slices, you can eat it all and there is no point shouting at others who want to eat the other slices of cake ! its hard sometimes to compete with Eblag and imported stuff but at the end of the day like i have already said people will listen and read and choose what suites THEM not what the suppliers say they should have or pay. only this week i had someone tell me i was to expensive and they could get similar for a lot less online and fit themselves my answer was "That's OK Sir you know where we are if you get stuck" have had several conversations and customers like this used to wind me up but after one or two rang back saying could i help them and they wished they had come to us to start with it kind of makes sense to go with the flow and let them work it out via natural selection !

'kin hell, I've not been on here for a few days and all hell breaks loose
I've been a member her since the early days of 2007 and yes the place has changed. Some of the members from back then have moved on and new ones have come - some stay and some go. Some join, post the highest possible number of questions per day, promise to keep their Defender till they're buried in it, buy shares in polish and then buy a boat and sod off ... Having site sponsors works ok I feel - as long as they contribute as members as well as push products ... I personally think Brendan, Pete Bell, Tim one or two others add a lot to the debates and questions raised - the forum would be a worse place without them. There are also a fair few members who add a hell of a lot to the place with their knowledge and advice - Tim (TJ), Brian, Ken, Andrew S (although less so these days) and MOG. Conversely there are some who just use it for banter and winding each other up. You sometimes have to get a perspective on it and step away from the keyboard - I got blamed on here for the end of the world by one supplier who then chucked his toys out the pram and left. I didn't have a clue what I'd done and in the end it turned he had assumed wrongly I'd complained about him. When he realised it wasn't me he did post an apology. Life moves on and he may send me a Christmas card this year. One thing I am a bit surprised about is that the OP on the thread is a mod on one of Martin's other forums (if I'm wrong then sorry) and therefore I don't understand his attitude on here which can seem confrontational for someone who is a mod. This is just my opinion - however as a moderator on one of the most 'anything goes' Landrover based forums on the web I do have some idea of middle ground and what makes a forum tick over. I am with you John.... been away for 4 weeks and it seems World war 5 has started..... and yes there should be a World War 3 and 4 first, but that is the thing about World War 5- it is soo big it skips World War 3 and 4!!
As for closer to on topic.... Yes we should all have freedom of speech.... But remember your other freedoms.... like the freedom to ignore posts (I must remember that one more )- the freedom to shop elsewhere etc. If you are in Tescos and you notice that their beans are 1p more expensive than Aldi- do you then march up to the customer services counter and demand a reason why they are 1p more expensive? Are they UK grown, where was the tin manufactured, and was the wrapper designed by a famous artist?.......... So why be like that with Land Rover parts? If I want to buy something I will decide on a budget and then look- if there are 2 products that are the same I will ask why one is more expensive.... if there is no reason then simple- I buy the cheapest one I won't badger the salesman or give abuse as more than likely he won't be able to lower the price. I will use a site sponsor (I have used most of them over the past 3.5 years). They put money to the forum so we put money to them..... it is a healthy business cycle for all. It is a close to the mark thing, but considering whilst in school I was tested and found to be 'Slow'/ 'Special needs'/ 'Retarded'/ 'happy bus' it doesn't offend me. It comes down to freedom of speech again...... either you say that people can say what they wan't or not no matter what the context. Everything could be taken in 2 ways..... either it could be light humour (even if it is dark humour) or it can be offensive. Glyn |

Sorry (again) but that is no defence.
If you think that is exceptable to post on the open forum the it says a hell of a lot. No doubt other will be along in a monment to tell me I am wrong but I wont move on this. |

Sorry Ive registered because although I believe in freedom of speah IMO you are way off mark here. What you have posted is not freedom of speech but an insult to the community of people that look after these beautiful special people. What you have posted and in your profession and support for PM4x4 is highly disrespectful surely you could think of some other form of dark joke as opposed to taking the mick out ordinary people which they are and not "RETARDED" as you have put it. If you state you where this way when younger are you saying it was acceptable for people to look point and take the out of you or have you forgotten what its like to be teased and bullied for being different? ... and the thread re-ignites.
I have to say it made me laugh (dark humor), offended me (social/moral correctness) and made me happy (seeing his smile and empathising with his happiness) all at the same time. Life does that. Humor mirrors life. Such pictures just make me realise that I am the "challenged" one and hope to be regularly reminded of it. As for freedom of speech - the post seems a bit borderline to me (sorry Glyn) but I am probably more sensitive than most about such things. A quick joke in the pub is easily forgotten whereas a post on a forum tends to play on the mind... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Very noble to sign up to the forum to excercise your right to free speech but take a step back, look at the context the post was submotted and take a deep breath. We are, hopefully but recent actions are proving different, adults on here. Most of us have seen a bit of life and as such are generally in a position to take as found what we see. I am speaking as the father of a 15 year old boy with severe learning difficulties and is statemented as on the Autistic Spectrum. Even 10 tears ago he was classed as retarded by officialdom, the term retarded just doesn't fit with todays politically correct society much along the lines of calling a German a Kraut or Jerry, you're frowned on calling a black person a <removed>. Just because the term is out of fashion it doesn't mean that it is not undefineable. So much crap and time is wasted on being politically correct and "right" which in essence is another attack on free speech.

It sickens me to see so many defend that juvenile and distasteful photo. I regard myself as old school and some times out of touch with modern thinking but even an old gig like me can see that crosses the decency line by a mile. A sad reflection.

Hi I have read the thread that is not my issue its is the picture that I find offensive.. Reason being is this is a public forum anybody can see that it puts the forum intro bad repute(That is just my opinion before anyone chirps at me) I read this forum all the time but only now have I joined because of that photo. I agree some people all have their own humor and may not be to some peoples taste. This is where you have your own private section like some other forums use that way no one gets offended. Had this been a private thread you wouldn't have the parent of a child getting upset about a photo and I do ask that it please be removed at this stage?
