285 is generally accepted to be the widest tyre you can safely put an a standard Boost, but the advice from BF Goodrich is don't go wider than 265.
I, and many others here run 285/75x16 tyres (in my case KM2s) and have done hundreds of thousands of miles on them with no problems. If you do fit 285s on Boosts you'll probably want 30mm spacers as well. |

If going bigger than recommended size (265..?), I'd make sure the insurance company is OK with that. They'll use any excuse not to pay out..

Go for taller rather than wider, body lift without suspension adjustment. BFG do 255/85 MTs (as do Toyo in their Open Country range) Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Remember that it will affect gearing and speedo though. ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

255 makes little difference for either. See this for comparison http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/visual-tyre-size-calculator
I use wheel spacers anyway so can't comment on turning circle differences. My 255s don't look that much wider than 235s, though the latter were on 17" (I think) standard boost alloys & former on steel 16". Spacer attaches to hub, wheel attaches to spacer, effect is to move the wheel outwards by the thickness of the spacer (same effect as changing the offset of the wheel). With wider tyres they allow the same angularity on full lock and hence maintain the turning circle. |

You can have a look at this calculator: http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp?action=submit
Cheers. PS: I have 255/85/16, but with extrawide wheel-arches.Spacers are attached only with the roof rack tent. Defender SVX 2008 Discovery 3 HSE 2005 Discovery 1 300Tdi 1995 |
