Yippeee - thanks Tim (apologies for photo-heaviness):
![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Used security screws and replaced the silly plastic clips at the bottom of the light guards with more nick-proof stainless (so easy to make). What I love about these lights is the precise light pattern, especially the horizon. The "pitch and yaw" can be adjusted exactly without throwing light at oncoming cars - with the old ones I had to have them too low because they "leaked" light upwards. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... Tim, what do you mean by new style? Aren't they regular 8700's? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Eric - you have the version with integrated front position or parking light which launched in May 2012. So yes you are already running the new style.
The first ones fitted were in the Speaker 110 ![]() Matt has the standard 8700 which is high & low beam only but with a PC lens and a new finish on the die cast which launched 1st November to replace the existing painted die cast model with glass lens. |

thinking about the security aspect of the JWSpeaker lights, at about £900-£1000 a pair, I think either JWS or the reseller should be marking these with a serial number and registering it with JWS. On the front and back of the light unit or ideally behind the glass. Together with a telephone number, a bit like the ISR system from retainagroup.
if there were markings on the light that would make them unsalable, maybe they would not go walkies ? putting photos of the lights with the security nuts on show might not really be helping the situation - having said that I don't know of any 8700's that have been stolen (rant over) ![]() |

That also occurred to me this morning - anyone? I take your point about security information but I don't honestly think a thief with any intelligence wouldn't have a set of screwdriver bits covering all the "normal" security screw heads (you can get them at boot sales). Safest would be shear bolts or rivets or to make your own design. However, the stupid thieves would just bolt-cut the guards - I'm stupid and that's what I would do ![]() That being said, I have removed the 2 middle photos and, as with the bonnet hinges, I will be filling my nuts with glue... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

![]() ![]() ![]() Have you all ever thought the more that you talk about theft and the likely / un-likely ways it can and cannot be done. The more information anyone thinking about stealing items would have. After all this information on here is 100% public and AFAIK you don't even have to be a member. Sorry off topic but thought I'd just mention it. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

I wonder how many thieves are members
![]() I think the best we can manage is universal security, like a garage , or "2 minute" security like claws, snap off bosses etc. Obviously mentioning ways to get around those things on an open forum is daft but talking about thieves breaking windows, cutting chains, undoing screws etc. and reliable ways to prevent/reduce such attack seems sensible. Ultimately, if productive forum discussion results in a strategy that makes thieves avoid Defenders because they're such a PITA to nick, we would all be happy. Aaaahhh - Utopia ![]() But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

I know we are going off topic but I think ignorance in owners is more of a problem. |
