I think in general Land Rover have improved security on Defenders - the key and locks on newer ones are more secure and of course there is the factory alarm.

However, the basic design of the Defender is such that it is still relatively easy to break into, and so despite owners going to the effort and expense of a range of after market anti-theft devices they do still get nicked. For thieves the prize is worth the extra hassle and they find ways around them.

pam i agree with you but as i have lost one in the past ,i know how it feels to have a defender stolen, mine was a 53 reg double cab, with every thing fitted,on the roof was a patriot rack with tent and awning, truckman back, all top of the market stuff, and much more fitted stage 2 repap intercooler ect,at least 20k worth,i only got 14k from insurance,PLEASE KEEP YOUR DEFENDER SAFE

United Kingdom 2001 Defender 90 Td5 HT Oslo Blue
In the past I have had a 1995 Tdi Defender 90 and a 2006 Disco 3 stolen from outside our house.

The defender must have been easy to steal, my wife was at home and they stole it at 17:00 on a Friday afternoon.

The Disco went overnight, and as its more secure, they simply broke into the house and took the keys. We were in the house but totally unaware until we got up in the morning.

Point is, I don't think there is much that will stop a determined thief...I think the best to do is to hide them in a garage, but not always possible. Out of sight, out of mind.

Cheers

Simon

Nine dogs that open a front door works

Only trouble is I'd get sued by the thief for loss of limb Banging Head
