Just bought one of these to use in the car, might not last but cheap enough. Intend to mount on the bulkhead between the seats and connect to a small touchscreen to use with my mapping software. Any suggestions for a touch screen, needs to be small and light.

I've got my last 2 screens from linITX who do loads of good shiney stuff.
The screens arn't cheap, but they are good. Think mine is an 8" one, in hindsite i wish i'd got a 10" just to make memory map easier to read. Oh.... looking at the PC you've bought... it's only got a 20gb drive... i'd upgrade that to a bigger one... if you use MM with 1:25 and 1:50000 scales, that will take nearly 20GB, by the time you've got windows, tech stuff, music etc, your drive will be full to the brim. |

You could also try www.digital-car.co.uk It's a good site for research and info. Friendly bunch and good for the odd question or two. As on here, make good use of the search function before asking though. Mp3car is ok too, although because it's an American site they can be a tad odd to deal with at times!
While you're in digital-car have a search for my username (same one as here) and have a look at some of the carpc installs I have done if you want some ideas. (Edit: Argh, just checked it and all the pics have gone! ) I've had them in two defenders and a discovery. At some point in the not too distant I will be installing my carpc in my current defender and will start a thead here to show the progress. Got a lot of fabricating to do, roof console, adapted dash fascia etc as I want to put two touchscreens in. One for satnav/rearview camera and one for media for the rear occupants. Linitx is a great site for components. Have a chat to Chris if he is still there, he's a top bloke. Can post up pics of the install here if anyone wants to see. Rusty |

Thanks Rusty and Diesel Jim good advice, if someone posted up pictures of a previous install I'm sure many would be interested. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Have a look at http://fit-pc.co.uk/
Or http://linitx.com/ The fit PC uses 12 v but they don't have 12 ign switching and no over voltage protection like a Lin itx pc Has , You could rig something to protect it from maplin I have a itx with touch screen in my yota with os 50k map data And a fit PC in one of the cctv drainage vans at work They both are very good but I like the fit PC best as you can use it as a PC in house on the back of a LCD tv or just a stand alone PC in house it has wifi antenna as well very nice little bit of kit Regards Ray 2023 110 Xs commercial D250 2005 D3 HSE (green lane toy) 1983 westwood gazelle 11HP still going strong |

This is our incar PC for our drainage CCTV van
Full windows XP with wifi antenna Works well. It's only 100mmx100mmx30 But has no over volt protection it that does not matterwe use it via additions battery in van. it will run for ages and ages hardly uses any power . You can even buy hand held power packs for them Front https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A1GWZuqDG1Pzi5 Rear https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A15qXGF1oyzcH Regards Ray 2023 110 Xs commercial D250 2005 D3 HSE (green lane toy) 1983 westwood gazelle 11HP still going strong |
