I was told the best mod i could do to the lanny is the RAI by a land rover mechanic, he advised me to do this and to always change the fuel filter every 3 to 6 months depending on how i was using the vehicle Thumbs Up NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE ANYWAY

ive run safari snorkels for about 7 years and not had this - i did get annoyed with flies until i put a mesh which works Mike

but we don't get big dust issues in the uk, its never dry long enough Wink

It was on "the long way down" I think, they had those safari snorkels that face forwards to scoop air, and in botswana or somewhere it just sucked in all the dust and filled up the airbox until they had to stop to clean it out. They were lesser vehicles than land rovers mind Rolling with laughter

They had to drill out the rivet and turn them around to face backwards in the end to stop them clogging up airbox every x many miles...

Lets face it - the RAI is more cosmetic than functional. How many of us really wade deep enough to drown (if you have a Puma then you'll have carpets and not want to get them all soggy Wink ).

RAI definitely work for dusty climes - ram or no ram. They also work pretty well as a snorkel so long as you make sure they're sealed all the way through to the turbo. Personally, mine gives me comfort when I go through deep puddles but realistically I'm sure the standard intake would have been fine (with a slightly damp filter). Mostly, however, it looks the part and, as a placebo, gives me the confidence to tackle anything. I'm sure it's cost me a couple of MPG but 5% of sh*t-all isn't worth worrying about in my opinion.

Best mods will depend on usage. Probably money best spent for long term protection will be Waxoly and a swing-away carrier. However, they don't really add to the aesthetics so a RAI, sills, MT tyres, A-bars and lights are all great fun. The most important thing is to get out there and try it out. You might find that you would really benefit from mud tyres and a winch or maybe a cargo bay guard to stop your luggage landing in your lap when you brake or perhaps hust a tow hitch and sankey to take the garden waste to the tip. Regardless of how you use your Defender, there are plenty of ways you can spec it up to either live or fuel the dream!

My Defender
is currently in the menders waiting for a replacement diff lock assembly (impossible to engage) and door seals. Also had to book 10 days in advance to repair the missing paint on the inside of the rear wheel arch extensions (noticed whilst jet washing off copious quantities of mud Whistle )

So far I'm loving the truck, it's fantastic. even on standard tyres it goes places that just shouldn't be possible Sheep

Not loving the Toyota Aygo courtesy car, though it is definitely quicker than the Defender it has no personality whatsoever.
