There are 4 bolts securing the brackets to the floor, 2 through the floor and two into the wheel arch. Is that the bit you're missing

there are the ones which go in the floor on the leg bracket and on the same bracket bolt through the side of the arch, on the lever of the seat you need to remove the plastic cover (small black clips like rivets with philips heads) take them out to remove the cover then you will see two more bolts and theres a stud which goes through under the arch, so once all the insides done jump out and above the wheel or under the arch how ever you like to think of it you will see a nut remove that which is on the stud then give the seats a yank and they should come out

Thanks. I found the extra 2 bolts on the brackets. One one side one was really worn (could have been me as my defender was bought new) and took for ever to remove but have now done that. For whenever I put them back is there a good supplier of these bolts? These seats are really heavy!Where can I get some rubber plugs for the holes left? Cheers,

I took mine out to give me extra space for my trip to the south of France on holiday, didn't bother with bungs or anything, ran in all sorts of weather and never once got any damp inside so at best I'd just put a bit of duct tape over the holes. Edit, in fact I tell a lie as I put all the bolts back into the holes apart form the ones that were bolted from underneath I think. Either way bit of duct tape and you'll be sorted ![]() Unless of course your seats are never going back in then bungs may be the answer |

Thanks. Am going to fit out with drawers and an Engel fridge for a 3 month trip in the Spring. It is amazing how big the back looks with the seats removed - even though mine were almost always folded up.Have put the bolts back in to seal the holes from the inside but duct tape will work for the other holes.Am not planning on being anywhere too wet!

genuine land rover- thats where to get the proper bolts from and they wont be that expensive. Use hostage tape to cover the holes

I have removed the seats and anchorage from my 1999 90. The wheel arches are obviously full of holes. I have put all the bolts back again but it still doesnt look great! Does anyone have any solutions/pictures with what they have done to cover up the bolts/holes etc that are left? Something neat and tidy! Pictures would be great!
I am pretty anal about my vehicle so looking for something a little more finished than duck tape! Not so keen on checker plate! Any help would be great! |

Depending on your skills with a needle and thread you could get a nice hem on the duct tape, would that help? ![]() |

I've done the same in the back of my 110. I ended up filling the regular bolt-sized holes with rivnuts and then putting some dome head stainless allen bolts in those. The larger holes at the ends are currently covered with duct tape but my plan is to cut some aluminium sheet to size and stick it on from underneath with something like Sikaflex. Inside will eventually be finished with sound proffing and carpet so it will look neat and tidy. I kept the original bolt holes as I have half an idea that I might use some of them for other things. If that wasn't a consideration though, then I'd be tempted to cut a larger sheet of ali to fit across the whole of the underside of the wheelbox. Sealed properly and coated with some sort of stoneguard, it would probably be better than original. Yayayaya, Scotty! Nice one...!
Thanks Anorak, will give Rivnuts a bash. Just had a utter mare trying to remove some rusted rivnuts from my Front Runner roof rack. Bloody things had rusted and getting them out proved to be a mission! So they not really my friends at the moment but would work well with flat allen bolts and new carpets and sound proofing. I see some people put checker pate over their wheel arches but im not a fan. Makes the vehicle more like the inside of a tin can if it wasnt already! Always the temptation to keep the holes but I am sure I will never find a use for them again. With the holes just below the windows that held the backreasts for the seats, this is on the 90 County SW so maybe a little off topic, I have put stainless ring bolts looks awesome! So gettting there... |
