If the old powdercoat is still holding on well... I tend to get stuff chemically dipped before hand.
Works out a lot cheaper, and makes life a lot easier for the powder coaters. Other option is to burn it off. My old BRB bar was plastic (not the thinner powder) coated.... a friend tried blasting it and it wouldn't touch it.
He suggested getting an oxy torch, and just going over all of the coating and lightly scorching it.... just enough to make it start blistering and going a bit brown/black and crusty when it's cooled. It really didn't take long, maybe 15 minutes to do the whole bar. Took it back and the stuff came straight off with the blaster. I got it re-plastic coated at the nudgebar center in Cirencester, they added it to one of their shipments to the coaters, a bit costly though, was about £60 I think, maybe slightly more, but it gave a much better coating than powder. certainly more "heavy duty" than the thinner powder, |

I would Marcus but it's fairly big and heavy, I have some photos from Tim so have sent these off for a price, so far I have one reply. If it is powder coat then it will be £48 to have it blasted and a further £48 to have it re-coated. If it is the plastic stuff he recommends putting it in a fire to burn the stuff off.
The bumper is in good shape but the coating has seen better days, judging by the photos Tim sent me so it's going to be a case of having it blasted.
As above Jamie the chap has said to just stick it on a fire, I guess with bonfire night coming up then it may give me the chance of finding a large enough one!! ![]()
That does not sound too much Jamie, although I have never been that impressed with the plastic coated stuff as I find it rusts underneath the coating if it gets damaged, has yours held up?
Cheers Steve, |

Hi Jason,
I recently had various bits and pieces including some tubular side steps that I'd had galvanised, coated by this company in Windsor: www.swallowsprays.co.uk. Not particularly cheap, but the quality seems good. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Be careful chucking the whole thing onto a fire.... that could be too much heat and distort it (especially the tubes)
I'd be more inclined to use an oxy torch and do a bit at a time. |

Thanks Darren, I found them on my search yesterday and sent them an email but they have yet to get back to me I may have to chase later in the week.
Thanks Ross, I also sent them an email last night but have yet to hear anything from them yet, again I will chase them later in the week.
I had thought about that Jamie, it has arrived at Neil's so just need to pick it up first and then see where I am with it. Thanks for the response, Jason. |
