Australia 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Zermatt Silver
So there's actually nothing wrong with this?
This is the left hand rear lower shock mount on the Puma. The right is identically put together. These are as delivered and have not been touched.

Can you spot anything amiss?

Your washer is the wrong way round and looks like rubber gromet is missing unless it's very compressed. Puma 110 SW

The rubber is there above the washer. I've since learned on ALRO that it is actually correct for OEM factory fit.

Go figure! I would have thought that the washer would cup the rubber like on any other shock. 110 2.4TDCi

No, the washer should always be this way round.

If it cups the bush it doesn't allow for flex in the shock absorber as it extends and compresses, remember it is unlikely to stay straight as it moves so some lateral movement must be allowed for.

Every shock I have ever changed, had the washers this way round, so I have always fitted the new ones the same way, never had any problems. MAD COW

I just had a look at mine and it's the same,but the front is the other way round.Why differnt on the front then.Looks like somebody made a change and thats how it is now.
My v8 has 320000km (With shock changes) so why do it different.Just a Land Rover thing I suppose and thats why we Bow down landies.

i thought the rears were that way around as the td5s etc had a metal casing on the bottom of the axle to shock mount to locate the bush. if the washer was the other way around it would hit the outside edges on the casing before compressing the bush.

the rear tops are definately that way around too but i believe the fronts are the dome out top and bottom. Cheers
