F...ing edited... I'm a little surprised - should I be ?
sorry guys can't even find my own posts - thats how bad I am at doing a search ...Mal where are you when I need you Very Happy

anyway all the F's are for my problematic truck (mentioned on numerous other posts I can't find) BUT alias.....

I think I've found the problem with the engine....its the transmission ! Shocked

no wonder nobody could find the problem with the rough running engine. been to Swansea today and I was beginning to think the low fuel light was working but that did eventually come on at 468 miles after filling up on BP ultimate. Anyway all was well there and until I came off the motorway and within a few hundred yards I'm at the traffic lights....come to pull off CLUNK as I lift the clutch up.....nurse it to my mom and dads a few miles away seems ok. 1 hour later pull to come home (another 8 miles and bl**dy heck what a bag of nails. slowly leting clutch pedal up to pull away and bang - and horrible sounds transmission back lash while on the move........SO ALL GOOD I THINK I'VE FOUND THE ENGINE ISSUE AFTER 2YEARS Thumbs Up

what now. the wife and her car are away. I need to run the kids around the weekend ? do I call land rover assist?.....and just to complecate matters it due a service NOW.

LRA coming out in the morning to review and will organise courtesy car if required (me thinks it will be req'd.....but then what do I know - I'm usually wrong....but I feel like my luck's turning so perhaps I'll be right...and perhaps I won't but if I am I'll find out tomorrow if the turn up which I'm sure they but if I'm wrong and they don't turn up and I don't get a courtesy car well may be I'll find out tomorrrow when they don't turn up to fix my car and confirm I don't need a courtesy car cos they won't be they tell me if I right or wrong but if they don't then I'll know my lucks not turning and that will confirm that I'm not sane but I'm sure I was before buying the wonderful vehicle that has enabled me to sample various other cars at no cost and .....my fingers are sore now.

Looking for the silver lining then I've been quite happy on the few occasions my RRS left me down (well one occasion was down to a main dealer overfilling the ACE reservoir). The nice people at Enterprise have brought me a brand new LR product and I've been able to have an extended test drive - the type you don't seem to be able to get from a main dealer anymore before you part company with a shed load on money. Smile

Last time I tried the new 8 speed box in a D4 and was very impressed...now that would be worth having in a Defender...

I think I'm a well happy bunny.

after almost 2 years of trying to sort an intermittent problem with the engine LRA have come out and said....

intermittant loss of drive. suspect transfer box. requires further investigation / repair at dealer.

enterprise car to be supplied Very Happy

so for the last couple of years where I thought vibration through the foot pedals was initially down to the engine then assumed it was from varying road surfaces it would appear to have been faulty transmission all along.

really looking forward to getting it back fixed and yet its not even gone to the dealers yet !

happy days (I hope I'm not speaking too soon).

Glad you found your cars fault, did you remove all your cars mods to save them passing the buck on why it failed.

Pete.

no mods to remove..... Shocked

oo. just thought there is one little thing that I should swap just before I go and drop it off thanks.

not that it could possibly have anything to do with the transfer box...but just in case best go swap now just before I go drop car off and await a freelander being dropped off at home later.....

so much for a disco 4 which i was hoping for.

A freelander will be better than a D4, you will appreciate the defender more when you get it back after driving a freelander lol.

I'm feeling like a numpty having thought I'd had engine trouble all this time and now it would appear it was the transfer box all the time.... Embarassed

anyone else done the same ?

and is it unusual for it to take almost 2 years to fail....ie from thinking some things wrong to failure?

just coming upto 24k miles for those interested. bearing in mind the car has done very little towing and is driven like miss daisy I presume its unusaul to have a failure so soon?

.....just starting to wonder if the work done under warranty had been paid out of warranty would have exceeded what I paid for the car.

new ecu - off road with RRS for c2 weeks
new door, bumper, tow electrics, bulk head rust, new seat frames, new window catches, painted front grille - off road for 4 weeks with citreon ds3
its now in for a new transfer box / investigation - got a new freelander at the moment
needs to go in for replacement carpets and drivers front door next
oh yeah been in twice before for leaks 3 or 4 days at a time - free lander provided.

thats got to be a few grands worth ?
