remapping a high milage td5
i'm thinking of getting a td5 as a second car and i would want to tweek the engine (read re-map, larger intercooler, silicon hoses, egr blanking plate and poss vaned turbo).
would this be very bad to do this to a 100k mile truck?

Mileage covered is irrelevant really...

It all comes down to the condition of the engine and transmission - and how well it has been looked after - and how well you look after it.

I have tuned TD5's that had done over 130,000 - 150,000 miles and they have not had a problem... on the other hand I have had customers bring vehicles with less than 60,000 miles on them - and refused to tune them as the engine were FUBAR'd.

Each vehicle needs to judged independently, I wouldn't use mileage as a blanket reason not to tune them.

hi Ian,

are there any easy signs to access the condition of a td5 engine (assuming not just white smoke at the exhaust)?

cheers

I'll vouch for that, Ian remapped my TD5 at 90k and it's at 120k now and the engine is as smooth as ever. It's a 10p engine as well with a Stage 2 tune and VNT

Patience and Hobnobs, although I left nearly a whole packet there on Tuesday so it may take a while before that bribe works!

Ian's work is second to none and always worth the wait.

Mine was done by Ian 2 years ago (stage 2 & Vnt) with 85,000m, it now has 102,000m no problems, also on a 1999 10p. I left custard creams and a bar of chocolate brought back by request from Switzerland. Rolling with laughter
