JST just to reassure you....... you are not losing your marbles even if they tell you you are. Smile

I have experienced exactly what you have. Only after long (3/4 hour and longer) cruising trips towing, have I had this noise. When driving shorter distances I have not been able to replicate the noise.

I dont believe it to be boost pipe, manifold related etc, as I would assume it would make the noise all the time, especially in city traffic when running hot. Mine first happened around a year ago and has probably done it about 3 times since then. (around 18000 kms have been covered since then)

Also when it made the sound I tapped off and accelerated again and it then stopped making the noise. Also mine only made the noise in 1st, and 2nd then stopped (half way through 2nd gear) also telling me its not something like a leaking pipe or manifold.

Hi Bruce,

mines only done it on one particular trip and that was towing and coming to a rest to then pull away again. have fitted a SG now as i am interested to see Water temp as and when it does it again.

i dont think its a manifold issue either for reasons as given. Cheers

Hi James,

I think we should close my thread and refer to this one..... Smile

What is a SG?

Also if you do find the problem if there is one, please post it here and I will do the same. I have subscribed.

I will again be doing a longesh highway trip this weekend but will not be towing. Will see if it does it again.

I just had another thought......I was towing in 40 deg C plus temperatures, I would assume you to be in European winter temperatures, so it can not be heat related?

Just guessing again......

Mine did it, Taunton replaced the gasket under warranty and then 2 days later it started doing it again.

Hasn't been such an issue since the de-cat though.

do Pumas has O2 sensors in the exh?

found this:

First, yes the vehicle will experience a power loss, but as I said it may or may not be noticeable at first. What will be noticeable is the increased fuel consumption. This is due to the fact the O2 Sensors are detecting Oxygen in the exhaust gases. This indicates that there is unburned fuel in the exhaust and will send a signal to the ECM to lean the air/fuel mixture out.

and was wondering if that accounted for the extra fuel the truck seems to be using.[/i] Cheers

Since fitting my inter-cooler mine has not made the noise. Strange?
