2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black

I know 10 years ago it was still the custom in real cold minus winter temps that in order to avoid solidifying of the parrafin in diesel, one would add 5 liter petrol to a full tank of diesel.
Seems with todays modern common rail diesels this does not work anymore, todays high tech equipment does not support this. So guess this means that even smaller amounts of misfills in a not really empty diesel tank may cause serious problems. Even if todays Defender is not really high tech all over, the Puma engine falls in that category. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Tonga Green

Around 3 years ago my wife put petrol in our diesel VW Golf, drove it home before the engine spluttered to a stop and wouldn't even turn over! I was hugely impressed .......

We called VW and they said the engine would be toast and that would be 3500 grand ...... Thank you very much.

Called my local garage who is a true mechanic not a technician, who nearly spat his coffee across the garage with rage at Volkswagens comments.

Well he got the Golf back to his garage dumped the fuel from the tank, flushed the system and fitted a new filter, 200 quid later the Golf was running perfectly...... and Volkswagen Barnstaple had lost a customer.

Adrian Flux offer cover for this. It costs about £15. I have it just in case my wife happened to be filling up

Well its the kind of mistake you only make once ! I filled up a Mondeo diesel with petrol a few years ago in Danbury, Essex and realised what I had done before I started the engine. Waited an hour for a recovery truck then off to a Ford dealer to have my nice full tank that I had just paid for emptied for a fee then had to fill it up again !
The worst part of it is feeling such a total plonker !
