my son has run his 200tdi none turbo S3 on use veg oil for a while with no apparent ill effects and now intermittently runs his 200tdi disco on new veg oil its just a bit smelly and smokes more than on diesel. loads of people use it all the time but the best bet is twin tanks one for diesel for starting and for a few mins before stopping and one for veg for when the engine is nice and warm, pre heaters are a good idea as well as the veg oil goes thick in cold weather. I've been n cooking oil for a year now, it's been fine, 50% mix with derv. Just started to add 1 litre of petrol to take out the lumpiness. WWW.1STOVERLAND.CO.UK

I know what you mean, 100% cooking oil is just to thick.. If you mix a small bottle up and leave it on your door step then you will know what it's like in the morning. The issue seems to be viscosity. TD5 is a different story. Not sure I'd venture that far. WWW.1STOVERLAND.CO.UK

Been using new veg oil for years. In the summer Ive had the mixture as high as 70/30 veg oil/derv. As the temperatures drop over winter I reduce the amount of veg oil, when its really cold I dont use it at all. It thickens in cold weather and can make it difficult for the engine to start.
I just part fill the tank with derv, then when I get home I pour in the veg oil. Infact now Ive got myself a nice new driveway I now pour the veg oil in whilst parked at work, don't want any spils on my drive 
In all the years Ive been using it my 300tdi hasn't suffered any negative effects/faults at all. It runs exactly the same with oil or without it, same mpg, same performance. Just smells a bit thats all. |

I was tempted to try this a little................ But veg oil is twice as expensive as fuel out here!!!

If I had an old pre common rail engine Id use a mix based on temperature as per War Pig. I wont be risking it in a common rail and nearly new vehicle. Need to get an cheap TDCI Mondeo as a test mule DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

my 300tdi has run on svo/dino mix for over 3 years now. svo=£1 ltr. its not for everyone, somepeople never do anything 'out of the ordinary'.

I ran mine on 100% oil last week with some petrol to thin it,,,,, mixed results, it ran great but starting was a pain !!!! i think for the winter months ill be running 50% oil 50% Derv. However on long runs IE wales for weekends away ill run 100% oil for the run down as I always take Jerry cans of both oil and derv. WWW.1STOVERLAND.CO.UK

glyn - forget the cost...think of the environment !
I don't believe veg oil has any detrimental effect on rubber seals, bio diesel with methanol residue is another story. rgards leaving the oil on your door step and it going thick ....you need to have a look at they type of cooling as different oil solidify at different temperatures. I believe rapeseed oil is best and palm oils worst - but thats something you can experiment with......and let me know  |

personally I wouldn't even run mine a 50% this time of year. max 30% svo I'd rcommend.
