A word of caution on cheap plug in tuning "chips", although I have never used this type of system, this is what Gary at Alive Tuning (formerly TD5 Alive) says about them:
I have no connection with Alive Tuning but I know of Gary from the Disco Owners Club forum where he always came across as a very straight forward guy and extremely knowledgeable. Those people I know who have gone for his tunes have been very pleased with the results. MAD COW 2007 90 Hard Top - 2009 BMW F800GS - 2002 CCM 604E Dual Sport Project90 |

I'm using racechip since 3 weeks, and it works very good: more torque and acceleration, too much in 1st and 2d gear, but very funny in 3d, 4th, 5th and 6th gear. But when You drive with throttle at minimum and icrease it just a little bit You smoke. This problem is caused by EGR valve that remains open in this condition. |

Those devices do not and cannot work anywhere near as well as a proper remap.
All they do is "fool" the ECU to believing that the engine is running differently to what it's actually doing, and fooling the engine into things the ECU isn't telling it to. The simplest of these boxes simply increase the fuel rail pressure, so for each injection there is more fuel going in. But the ECU doesn't know that, and doesn't adapt anything else it does. A proper map, although more expensive, does a heck of a lot more - it changes more than just fuelling pressure - timing and duration can be changed, as well as lots more maps to do with airflow, still respecting in-gear torque limits, etc etc etc. |

I tried and drove several varients before I purchased an upgrade and counting and weighing up all the possibilities, there really is only one sensible option for the Puma.
A BAS upgrade. Optionally reversable as many times as you like, tuned for your requirements. It works and is reliable. Job done. |

What would happen if the rig fails and you need to call LR assistance? Puma 110" SW

I keep the re-tuning box (it's only small) in the pocket behind the seat, and can re-tune/de-tune on the spot. If you read some of the threads on the forum about the BAS tune I think you'll find most of the questions answered.

Ciao Vinicio, same problem if you REMAP (not add-on) and give more fuel around 1800-2500 rpm.... black smoke (pay attention because this smoke will deposit inside you inlet manifold, I must clean a lot of it) My solution was: TAKE OFF EGR connector (ok I'm running with MIL lamp on but my engine and are happy now) Try it and report to me your considerations. After that I'm waiting Pete (Bell Auto's) REMAP box....... SO I'll can report the results Daniele p.s. we have the same side step.... for me the best but you need to spray it inside the tubes with waxoyl otherwise the rust came on Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition ![]() IID Pro MV License |

I`ve been using the racechip for a couple of days. It certainly gives more power and torque at about the rpm range as std. For a spectator knowing how these rigs are, must be like "what the hell". It is just not normal how fast you can go. Puma 110" SW
