Think the regulator's stuffed
Noticed last night when I switched on the headlights the battery monitor dropped into the red and the lights went dim after a few seconds.
A few seconds later it bounced back into the green and then played up and down again all the way home.

Reakon it's the regulator or alternator?

I did also notice one morning she battled to crank over so It must have been happenng for a while without noticing the led's on the battery monitor and that we havn't driven at night for a while.

This model is turning into a bit of a lemon of late. Puma 110 - gone

Reading the manual section on Load Management System (see below) it should in theory give a warning of low battery on the dash. Maybe this is copied from the discovery system but without the warning Question
Also why would the red battery light not come on.
If the headlights are dimming it is definately not the battery monitor at fault.
Very confusing. I am weary to drive it now until landrover have an opening, the low voltage may destroy something else.


LOAD MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The load management system comprises software resident in the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) module .For
additional information, refer to:Control Components (412-04 Control Components, Description and Operation). Its
purpose is to protect battery state-of-charge during abnormal usage of the vehicle. The system will request the Media
Orientated System Transport (MOST) ring and the air suspension to go into 'power save' mode, and will modulate
features such as seat heating and screen heating to prevent the battery being dragged down to a point where the car
becomes un-operational. A 'WARNING - LOW BATTERY' message will be displayed in the message center. Puma 110 - gone

Embarassed Embarassed Found after some investigating a loose bolt on the positive battery terminal holding what I assume is the recharge line from the alternator.
Problem solved. Puma 110 - gone

Netherlands 2003 Defender 90 Td5 PU Caledonian Blue
I hope you didn't murder your altenator this way as I did with my first 90. My positive terminal was loose to and got completely off the battery and that destroyed the capacitators on the altenator. Roel

How did you tell the alternator was stuffed?
Mine has been fine the whole weekend even with the spots and headlights on. Puma 110 - gone

If it is still charging it is OK.

If you have a multimeter and check the voltage when the engine is running. If it is above 13.5V it is OK if it is below 12.5V your altenator isn't charging. Roel
