Touring Options
Am currently looking at the possibility of joining some friends on a 6 week tour of europe. I've looked at hiring a motorhome (fecking expensive £400 a week) or buying a tin tent and selling it after. I don't do tents as I want

a) a proper crapper
b) a bed
c) zero setup and faffing about in the Censored ing rain.

What sort of model should i be looking at, i want a fixed bed and it must have a shower 4 birth would be fine. I'll be leaving it hitched to the disco most of the time. Something with decent re-sale would be good as i would be selling it when we get back.

Anyone done anything similar ?

Pom - we just hired a motorhome, and yes, they are expensive. There's lots about now - we hired one just a couple of weeks ago:

Lovely inside, with fixed bed, shower, toilet etc:

We're in discussions with a partner about setting a small motorhome rental company up. As you say, they can cost £800/week to rent at high season...

If you do rent one...

Water tanks - we had a 87 litre fresh water tank, which would do for 2 days of cooking and washing with 2 very brief showers - some campers have much less...
    Fixed bed is great
If you are more than 2 people, may be worth checking there's enough seatbelted seats for all
Fridge size can be limiting, ours was less than 70 litres, so not much room for beer AND food... Confused
MPG was better than the Defender!
As you're going a long way, 6th gear and cruise would be good (just like defender Thumbs Up )

With the Motorhome, you won't need to pay site fees, as you can fill with fresh water and empty the toilet quite easily, it's much more self-contained than a caravan...jut pull over, swivel the driver's seat into the back and make a cuppa Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)
