Feels more like a Boost issue to me and I would be checking the Turbo actuator control bar is moving freely and not binding. The electronic sensor for Boost is the MAP sensor mounted on the inlet manifold and if this is faulty you will lose active boost so it is worth giving it a clean as are the plug connections with an electrical contact cleaner.

how do you check the actuator control bar is moving freely? Cheers

just ran the vehicle again in std tune, working egr (or its meant to be) having cleared faults last time, its come up same again:

P068A - Engine Control Module/powertrain control module - power realy de-energised too early
P0606 - Engine Control Module/powertrain control module processor
P0404 - EGR control - circuit range performance
P0100 - Mass or volume air flow circuit
P1402 - EGR - metering orifice restricted/valve position sensor circuit
P0299 - turbo underboost

i am seeing what i think is full std boost pressure - 18psi under heavy load. how long it takes to get there compared to what it should be i dont know.

my thoughts are either sticky EGR valve allowing air to escape as i would assume actuator on turbo is working as i reach full pressure.

or a mate suggested an issue with turbo bearings - hence the squealing noise too. Cheers

Check that the control bar is loose at both ends and there is grease present on both ball joints. You can see in the below pics the modulator and vane arms with a bar connecting them together, this is the control bar/actuator rod.

James, what tool are you using for the live data and the reading of the dtc's? Is the reading MAP psi or Boost psi on the gauge?
The reason I ask is that my Puma averages 225kPa which is 32-33 psi Confused

&feature=plcp

battery output seems to be what i would expect. or do you mean something more specific.

have done another 100 miles, same faults showing as previous. with a reset part way through

Just put the egr off map back on and now no faults showing after 20 miles. Cheers

noise and lack of mpg is directly affected by which map i am running. egr off and no noise or normal economy. egr working and poor economy and noise under load. Cheers

Symptoms where a high pitched squeal like a mild slipping fan belt. Sounded the same as when an exhaust manifold stud had snapped on a 200TDI. The noise only appeared once the engine was warm and the squealing coincided with boost demand.

Hi Brian

sounds exactly like that ^^^^^ and only when under boost.

BUT its only come about since removing the egr blank software.

i guess that would explain P0299, P0100???

Screeching when under boost would make me take a really close look at the pipes from trubo to intercooler, the intercooler itself and the pipe from the intercooler to the inlet manifold. A slit or split in one of the rubber pipe will cause exactly this sound.

Temperature is also a factor since the pipes become more flexible when hot.

these pipes are all good and checked. it only does it under heavy boost when running the egr open (ie std) file. Cheers

I get that with mine sometimes - mainly when towing the caravan but now and again just driving. John
