Heater woes !
right before I start i can't beleive I'm moaning about the heaters on a Defender !

I'll try and explain the best I can !

When my heater is set to zero ! Or no blow ? Air is still expelled from the vents be it face footwell windscreenor a combination of all, with the heater dial clicked anti clocwise 3 clicks from cold red hot air is expelled from the passenger side vents and cold from the drivers side, so much so that my mrs had to open the window and I was freezing on my side !

With the dial cranked further left I got heat but it's unbearable, there is no half way point,
has any one else had this problem ? DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

I've noticed that the footwell on the passenger side gets a lot warmer than the driver's side. I was merrily warming up whilst my wife retreated further and further from the blower. It seems mostly to do with volume of airflow and I've not noticed the same thing from the dashboard vents.

It is definitely a lottery as to what the correct setting on the dial is. Even in the dead of winter I can't really maintain anything above 1/5 rotation on the heat dial. I assumed full heat was designed for when you have to regularly open and shut the doors in the arctic!

With the fan off, I get a slight breeze from the vents but only if I put my hand up to them.

Remember - if you have the A/C on it'll automatically blow through at setting 1 speed, even if you have the fan set to 0 (I assume to protect the compressor). One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

I have done a little testing on this.
Between all the clicks i could only find 3 heat settings.
This was not a scientiffic test but this is what i found
1. off
2. 66 degrees celcuis, somewhere between half and a third
3. 88 degrees celcius, half to full heat
It does not matter where you turn the dial, those are the temps. Puma 110 sw White
No extras yet.

If you set the air to recirculate around the car, it seems to blow out less air.

But, I've noticed that once the heater has heated up, it doesn't blow cold air again once you've set it back to cold. Instead, you seem to have to put the A/C on to get it to go cold again? LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 XS SW 2.4

My heater control seems to be a push button with a window on it, works really well infinitely variable settings, and theres a back up on the other side. Thumbs Up Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

I know !
I remember driving a 200tdi to the north of Scotland in the middle of winter one year !
There I was sat inside a doss bag hat gloves and a flask, I taped up the front vents and the door seals with black masking tape and climbed in thro the rear door !

It was absolutely Baltic,
I'm not moaning directly about the heat element just wondering if everyones is the same ?

Both my old TD5's would take most of the journey before they were warmed up. At least my Puma is chucking out some heat after 2 or 3 miles. 110 Hard top

I used to drive my Td5 90 in the winter with one (gloved) hand on the steering wheel and the other cupped over the only vent that pumped out any heat in the middle of the windscreen. I'd alternate hands and it would take the best part of 30 mins to break the chill.

Had a 2 hour drive home tonight in the Puma and although it wasn't truly cold it was certainly getting there. Heated seats on, check. Heater on, check. Way too hot within 5 mins, check.

I feel cheated. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
