That is one of those get used to it things, yes you can get a 2/1 ratio link to join the steering colum to the box, they are used for racing but hell they are twitchy in a straight line afterwards. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Hey Norman, you haven't done enough miles yet - there are lots more things you'll notice and that will take you're mind off the steering! And just wait till it rains!! I bought my first one last year (07 Puma) and on the test drive I thought it was undriveable, but I went straight in and said I'm havin that and you know what - I haven't stopped smiling since! Just give it time. 90 XS

Are you sure it's the speed it turns and not just the lack of turn ?
The best mod I've made was to fit wheel spacers and tweak the steering stops even the wife drives it now it also made it drive on the roads more sure footed I think or may be I'm just kidding my self But either way enjoy It's good to be back from the dark side DC110 -2012 Black with black hood and black x-tech FFRR 4.2 vogue Renault traffic auto PT crusier convertible Laika x700 Motorhome |

I can supply replacement quick ratio steering boxes...
Really though, as mentioned above , it is makes a big difference increasing the track width with regards to turning circle... a few other choice modifications to the suspension set up of your Defender will make it handle and steer like it is on rails. Suspension mods.... You bring it to me, I change numerous components, you pay me money and drive away happy. Simple What mods depend on usage, requirements and budget. A defender even with standard springs, can be transformed with a set of Bilstein dampers (Inc steering damper) uprated anti roll bar bushes, and for road use an uprated rear anti roll bar will make it more controllable. On top of this would be heavy duty steering bars and different front radius arm bushes... Going further still would be different spring rates. A smaller steering wheel (MOMO Race) on mine made a big difference for me.

Two tonne, high-riding, 4x4 in poor handling/steering shocker!
Seriously, buy a sports car if you want to go around roundabouts like you're travelling on rails. In the interests of balance, I will post on a more relevant forum that my Golf GTI has pi$$-poor ground clearance & is rubbish at crossing muddy fields! I wonder what the response will be?
