Jerk
Hi all,

I was out for a bit of a drive today and had about 20min on the motorway when I had a bit of a jerk in the running of my 84 V8 110. It doesn't really feel like the motor but something more in the transmission or axles. It did it a few more times before I decided to head for home (our last big trip ended up with the fuel pump giving up....so I was a bit on edge). It seems to be OK on the small roads with lots of starts and stops and in town it gave me no problems at all. Just seems like at about 50-60mph it skips every once in a while.

I had just changed the plugs and wires but really don't think this has anything to do with it. It was running very for the whole trip well and does not really seems like and engine problem as there is no change in revs or engine sound. It just seems like it skips a beat.

Any thoughts on what I should look at?

Is it fuel injected? V8 ECUs sometimes do that, especially 3.9 versions.

Thanks all,

It is the dual carb V8, not EFi (did they have EFI in 1984?). I spoke to some others who suggested to check the proshafts. The front one I am able to turn about 1cm back and forth (does not seem to have play in the actual joints in the propshaft but movement in the axle or transfer case) and the back one is solid and doesn't budge at all (edit: of course because the handbrake is on.....need to check this tomorrow...) This leads me to believe that it is either the transfer case or the front axle? Any thoughts?
