They are as good as any of the other products from a deterrent point of view. Except that they are not that visible. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced about putting them in the brake or clutch lines as both have bleed nipples (if you catch my drift). While you might not drive without clutch or brakes - if you've just stolen it, you are probably not bothered about crashing the gears etc!

Putting a valve in the fuel or steering lines makes more sense from the point of view of stopping it being driven away?

Willy - I live in sleepy Derbyshire, however we had builders on site for six months and I could watch, the next day, the thieves on CCTV break into their pound and nick their supplies, it happened virtually every week, including a dumper truck and mini digger.

The digger and dumper had trackers and were on their way to Sheffield, both were recovered by the Police, but the thieves has disappeared. The mini digger was on a trailer, but the dumper truck was nearly in Sheffield, so they had driven it all the way, which we were told was about a two hour drive!!

For a Defender owner with a Tracker this makes setting up a geofence essential, anyone who is prepared to sit in a stolen truck for two hours is certainly stupid enough to drive your car away and spend an hour or so looking for a tracker.

I also liked the look of the Mech Lock from Mud but couldn't help thinking that a thief would happily 'crash' the gears to get away, fitting to the brakes makes more sense but if they had to cut the lines and drive would they really care?

@Sticky.... I'm fairly sure the Datatag UV etch stickers are made for them by Retainagroup, the guys that run the ISR.

Have a look here and see if thats the type of thing you are looking for.

Retainagroup did an LRO promo pack a year or so back, which along with the glass etching system, had UV self etching metal part marking stickers and also some plastic marking stencils where you applied the UV fluid over the top. I think you can still buy that pack direct from Retainagroup for about £35'ish.

I've got some contacts at Retainagroup, so drop me a PM if you want the guys details etc. I'm not sure they'll do exactly what you are looking for but they may be able to help. Thumbs Up Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

For the engineeing types on here there definatly are some areas that need to be looked into. I think the main quick way is to lock the steering or transmission without having to get under the vehicle ect. Sone sort of holed plate on the draglink that a lock can be engaged into when on full lock. Fuel taps seam a good idea to.
Mine is trakered but its a monitered system for work i have to text them the time i am leaving in the morning if it moves before then they contact the police directly. Or i can set up geo fences with them for our machines if they leave the site we put them on we know instantly.
When i fitted the tracking unit i tryed to be as devious as possibe but you have to get power from somewhere and extra wireing is a dead givaway and points the theif to the location. The aerials are hard to discuise aswell. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

But a separate fuel cutoff/denial device could be the answer. No gas = no motion.

If a gear lever could be locked or removed, & the Defender parked in gear (also low box?), that would also help.

Of course MagnaVolt is the ultimate deterrent....  Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

I always liked the ignition switch setup on older saabs where you could not remove the key unless reverse gear was selected,sure you could still hot wire it but could only make your getaway in reverse ! 2005 Td5 90 XS
