Had mine lowered to 195 cm from original 203 cm for the same reason, wanted to be able to find parkingspace in city-areas too. Road performance ist much better than it was with the original springs. The 265 wheels are a bit lower than the originally fitted 235-size

Dave - and this is using Land Rover springs? That would be better for me, as they would look more "original" and less likely for my dealer to bounce any future warranty claim (my Defender's 11 months old). I have already (mine's a Utility 110) removed the standard (on USW) RKB101111 Purple/Brown 409.96mm, and replaced with CSW "110 7 Seat RKB500300 White/green/green 422.96mm" spring. It suited me better, made the ride less chattery when unladen. MrsK likes the improvement, but a bit more would be great! It would also help the trailer be more level as it tilts upwards towards the rear of the car at the moment (with tow bar on lowest setting). However I would like a bit more improvement and was thinking of Extreme 4x4 -1" springs and Koni Shocks. I rarely carry heavy loads (that's what the Trailer is for)...maybe 300kg max in the back. The Trailer would have a max nose weight of say 70kg. Does your spreaddy allow a calculation which will tell me which springs would give a slightly softer ride and -1" from the RKB500300 springs???? Thanks! Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

The two springs you've tried are pretty similar apart from free length. The Green-White-White should sit slightly higher (around 10mm) than the Brown-Purple but as they are both triple rated progressive springs how much weight is on them will make a big difference to their height, particularly because the longer spring will stay in the softer area for longer. My spreadsheet currently uses averaging to deal with progressive springs which is not always ideal as progressive springs don't normally work in a linear fashion.
Without knowing the compressed length of the current springs it's a bit of a shot in the dark but on mine with it's normal weight your springs would give a compressed height of around 360mm. At the same weight an NRC6904 would give a compressed length of 335mm (a 1 inch drop) or if you want to go really low and soft NRC6388 would give 310mm compressed - a 2 inch drop. NRC6389 would give a smaller drop than NRC6904 standing around 11mm taller so around 1/2 inch drop from where you are now. If you really like a soft ride and have the shocks to cope with it then OME 2752 would also be an option. It would sit around the same height as the NRC6904 but is a MUCH softer spring. As before, all these figures are based on fitting the springs to my vehicle which runs at around 352Kg sprung weight on the rear corners. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

i like the sound of the OME spring. But i think i'd uprate the ARB to an X eng unlockable one to keep it tidy in the bendys

Russ
I have just measured the springs i mentioned on my last thread The are not handed and are both 410mm in length. Again i cannot confirm the free length of the Puma 110 spring so cannot compare it for you. I am guessing that unless someone here can confirm then the best thing to do is jack the body up until there is no weight left on the spring. Do this on the drivers side as this will be the taller spring. They were lower than the TD5 110 rears that i replaced them with at the time prior to going for a 2 inch lift. If they are any good to you let me know and you can have them, please note that i will be away on my jolly days from Sat for a week. Just pm me if you need my number. Cheers Mark |

Well I have good news!
I have managed to modify the garage door slightly and I (the wife) can drive the defender in and out without any additional weight or the door being manipulated and I've still got the original springs on But once again thank you all for you help and advice Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |
