My March 2012 XSU (2.2) most definitely has rubber gaiters around the gear levers and handbrake and I`m fairly sure that the gearknob never walked around a field in a former life. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

It said clearly in the Landrover 'brochure' and online that there was a leather gear knob, but mine arrived with plastic and I was told they never did it in leather (2011/12my hybrid)
Obviously the department who dreams up the spec didn't tell the man who orders the gear knobs dj 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

Hmmm the plot thickens I got my new one about 3 weeks ago and it came without a leather steering well which the dealer sorted asap but he never mentioned the gear knob etc.. I only noticed what I thought was one in the brochure but can't really make it out..no mention of it in the same brochure, just the wheel.

This was the same on all Puma XS models from 2007 on - the brochure says they come with leather knobs but they never have. John

There's a class action there - we could combined threaten to sue LR unless they provide the leather gear knob we paid up for!

Yes and I had some dents missing (now fixed under warranty especially the wing top ones), and the water leak in the passenger side isn't working either, rendering my water ingress guide totally useless. Whatever next.
I prefer my old 90, they knew how to build them then. Dj 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

Plastic and rubber is far superior to leather anyway.

Hi,
Putting my 'working in sales at Land Rover dealer' hat on, coupled with being a bit of a Defender geek, I can confirm that the Puma XS, at any model year (including the 2013MY whose details are currently embargo'd) didn't and don't feature a leather gear knob, transfer box knob or gaiter. The Td5 XS always featured a leather gear knob and transfer knob. All model years of XS from launch (2002 MY) up to and including 2013 MY have a leather wrapped steering wheel as standard. Hope this helps clear things up? If you fancy a leather steering wheel, I know that fcx.me.uk (User ID: Go Beyond) are currently developing one with XS silver stitching, and looks rather smart. I have just purchased the leather dash components from him for my new 90XS (62 plate, coming on Saturday) and they look awesome and are superb quality. Best Regards John. Currently....... all gone...... pending delivery of a mid life crisis....... Previously..... Quite a few! I really am a sucker for them! |

Thank you very much for the positive feedback John, very much appreciated
As John said we are currently 'playing' with Steering wheels and also hopefully the new XS cubby box lid will be retrimmed in Leather by FCX.ME.uk shortly. We already do the Puma gear knob, transfer lever and gators ....
