That's what you call "A Defender Without a View...." You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I really could not get on with my spare up front so I now carry tire weld and only sling the spare in the boot if I'm trailering a long way from home. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Another option:
Technically it is better for a collision with a pedestrian as his head would bounce off the inflated rubber? Glyn |

You might have to ask Mudstuff, I found the images on their website, other images below but none found looking out the window. Might be OK if you sit on a cushion Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

I wouldn't do that, esp seeing how the Puma already suffers in warmer climate with its intercooler. -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

I couldn't help but go to the workshop and put the spare on the bonnet of mine.
After fitting I assumed this possition: .... after 2 mins I picked myself up and took some pics that I will post later when not on work computer. Looks meaty, but you can't see Fu*k all through the windscreen. The thought of then having a bracket as posted above which will then add another inch or so height would make it even worse. With a 285 directly on the bonet lump, it obscures about 50% of your view (add another inch and you will loose 60-70% usefull visability)...... Then there is the legal implications of the bracket- the bar across the front is in direct violation of the 'bull bar' rule.
I can't see why it would be a problem. It is a constant 30+ Degrees C here and I am running a TJM bull bar and Lightforce 240 spots and not had a sniff of temp/ power problems. It seems only some suffer from the problems. Glyn |

Interesting thread - learnt a few things and never seen a spare mounted on a puma bonnet before. Used to run a Lightweight with a wide section BFG bonnet mounted and surprisingly never thought I had an issue with forward visibility but whenever someone else jumped in to have a drive the spare immediately became an issue.
Two military options for consideration - the Wolf fitting - has anyone got any pics fitted to a civvie model?; and the old Pink Panther fitting: Click image to enlarge Whilst looking it up, I also came across this double fitting for the front - given it was an Oz bush patrol vehicle cooling must have be OK: and this these two to add: Click image to enlarge |
