No but got a 230 Volt AC Bosch and it's absolutely brilliant.
  (Sorry Steve, temptation too great to resist).  If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

 .... ok, i'll try to be constructive 
keep vibrations in mind, even if they survive trucks with their air suspended cabins and boats, caravans etc i am afraid a defender will rattle their internals to death in short time. Also found they need about 65 amps to run on full power as they are full 750W units (which is good as it means they would work/be as fast as a home model) Not cheap from what i see. dont have a use for it myself but if you have they seem to get rather good comments.  |

I'm with you Pam, the image of sitting out in the bush watching lions hunting their prey and then the 'ping' as the popcorn is ready is quite disturbing

Don't take any notice of them Steve, I have a microwave in my caravan and that's about as hardcore as you can get (what with the blown air heating and shower)
It does seem the consensus of opinion on sites that I looked at re 12v microwaves is that they drew a helluva lot of current so needed heavy cable installations, so some people who bought them never got around to fitting them because of that. I can see where you are coming from as Mrs H had me looking at them a while back. I had a 12v kettle once and that would flatten battery no problem (unwanted xmas present from mother) so had to revert to the traditional flames technique. I agree Dave, it's a quick and easy way of cooking. I have seen a few photos in expedition prepared land rover and was just asking for an opinion. Some people are happy with wood fires, some with gas or petrol

Don't get me wrong - I love microwaves! For cooking vegetables as it is a healthier way than boiling on the stove, but also for making sources (makes less mess than a pan and more controllable cooking, best way to do Birds custard!), the occasional ready-meal, defrosting and such like.
With our caravan we've never felt the need for a microwave though. I do miss not having it a bit, but it just isn't necessary and as we only have a mid-sized van and it would be a struggle to fit one in. Besides we mostly caravan on non-hook sites so it would be impractical re. battery drain. I just have to re-think what I cook and how I cook it. We have an oven in the van but it tends to be mostly stove top cooking, BBQs or eating out! For my expedition prepped 90 the thought of having a microwave would never even have crossed my mind! I am trying to persuade Dave that we need a Dutch oven though - have a strong urge to bake rum and raisin damper and apple crumble (and custard of course) in the middle of the outback! I know! I'll just have to relearn the art of custard making all over again (and the tinned stuff just isn't the same!).

You could always take it with you, as long as you don't pack it in small plastic bags and hide it about your person

Not intending to take any food in - it is just too complicated.
Have found a shop in central Sydney (near the touristy things) that sells the Custard Powder. But at approx a fiver for 300g (90p in the UK) I think it will be for treats only! Same goes for HP Sauce - just less than a fiver in Sydney 95p in Sainsburys!  Our blog - http://landytravels.com/
