Mach 5, Zu or Sawtooth?!?
I am currently running Boost with Grabbers and I am wanting to put something new on to lift the overall look.  I confess it is mainly about the cosmetics as I don't currently really do that much offroading. However, I am after a more aggressive look!

I have narrowed the wheel choice down to either Mach 5, Zu or Sawtooth.  In terms of tyres I was thinking of going for Cooper STT. (Again, confession, because they look good as the tread extends down the side wall)

I don't want to get into raising suspension or be worried with wheel arch rubbing etc.  I am also conscious of not impacting the remaining LR warranty or introducing an issue on the insurance with a suspect modification. Last thing I would want to do is give the insurer an opportunity to refuse a claim due to the wrong wheels or tyres. (I know, call me over cautious!!)

Can someone give me advice on spacers / offset and what I should and shouldn't do.

Regarding the tyres, am I mad?? Are the STT's for every day road use a crazy idea???

Will the braking distance and general handling on the road be significantly adverse compared to the General Grabber I am currently running? What are they like in the wet?

Any tips, opinions, advice or general points of view would be appreciated and will help me make the right decision. Proud owner 110 Utility XS

I've been running on Mach 5s for some considerable time with Cooper STTs on road only. No spacers and absolutely fine in the wet. I am highly impressed with the longevity and performance of the Coopers. I have covered approximately 16k miles with them and reckon I will get the same again. The finish on the Mach 5s have stood up to the rigours of three Winters (two of them harsh) and I have absolutely no signs of rust or deterioration. I do periodically wipe them over with a rag and WD40.
I am pleased with the agressive look and went for 15 X 10 with a 40mm offset which does admittedly make the tyre (being 32 X 11.5) slightly protrude but was my saving grace when I had an altercation with a Citroen driver.....

For me Mach 5 was the best personal choice and one I would make again if I was in the market for a set of wheels. With regards to insurance claim them as being fitted. I did and it cost me nowt.

Steve,

Well worth the effort though if you're on a tight budget, the improvement quite amazed me! Shocked

Back on topic.... Thumbs Up

I hate wheel cleaning....Worse ones for me were historically BMW cross spokes, easiest Saab Aero Vikings. The Mach 5s come in a very close second to the Saab ones. On the Mach 5s (plus ZUs I presume) the ease and thoroughness you can clean them is a HUGE bonus for me. You can actually get your hand through the spokes with a rag to clean the entire wheel not just the external facia. All four wheels can be cleaned without the need for brushes etc. in a matter of minutes.

Mal, as I have said before your truck wheels look great Thumbs Up As you have had them for a while now and seeing as a change is as good as a rest maybe we should just swap wheels.....

Powder coating the boosts could be an option - yours are looking good JSG. The point about the ease of cleaning on the Mach 5 and Zu is very interesting and worth adding to the mix. I bet the Sawtooths are a bit of a bugga to clean.

Anyone got a pic of Zu with STT on a Stornaway Grey? Proud owner 110 Utility XS
