I've been asked more than once what's wrong with my Sikaflex-hands when I go into work on a Monday morning. I think I'm the only one who gets their hands dirty - the others think it's some sort of illness Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Sikaflex is a complete b45t4rd to remove from your hands if you leave it on longer than 10 minutes or so. As we do not keep spirit based cleaner onboard our vessels I had to raid the spare fuel cans for the rescue boats to find something to shift it.
Once on your hands it's there for three to four days until it's completely worn off. Best thing to do if you're going to a posh do and have black Sikaflex on your mits is to reapply some white over the top, it doesn't look so obvious, unless your palour is naturally black of course. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

We do the loom for under the cam cover here:
http://shop.defenderbits.co.uk/defender-td...-702-p.asp at £26.95 + vat and then a clean of the red plug with some brake cleaner or anything with ipa or similar degreaser to flush the oil out, a periodic check of the plug until no more oil apprears and job done. Customers have told us that a couple of checks a month or two apart and no more oil appears. |

Andrew, is the inside of the connector fully potted on that loom? If not, the oil seepage will be back sooner or later.
The only way that oil can leak from the TD5 cambox and end up in the ECU connector is if it comes down the inside the insulation of the conductors. The only way it can get into them is if it leak from inside the connector. An leakage round the outside of the connector will just make a mess on the engine, and will escape from the harness bundle long before it gets to the ECU. I have never yet seen a replacement harness with a properly sealed and potted connector available off-the-shelf. |

I will take a close look at the plug and report back. I thought the issue was to do with the type of wire used on the original that allowed the oil to penetrate through (I may be wrong) I will see if we can get a real close up of the plug end once we've recommissioned the photo studio after our move!
