What was the last time you drove this road BigRuss?
It was indeed a great drive before the big forest fires which devastated the mountain. Since you know a lot of places here maybe you can add something to my route or make your suggestions. |

WOW That is awesome... I owe you a few beers for that! I will be getting security reports for all the regions I plan to visit, and hopefully the Geo cell will be squaring me away with detailed maps of the whole route I finally choose. The gf is getting really excited at the idea of it now, and wishes it was already here!......... I just need to finish off my CV, book a whole load of courses and then my main aim will be the journey, prep and of course the admin (boring part of it all). Glyn |

Best of luck with the trip, Glyn. It is easier to do stuff like this before the kids come along. When the wife and I bought our 90 turbo hard top we drove around and slept in the back of it on a board and a duvet! Great memories but I don't think either of us is flexible enough to do it now. I am toying with the idea of turning our redundant 110 200 tdi csw into a basic camper but the wife has told me that her days of sleeping in the back of a Land Rover are long gone. Looks like it will be a one bed job now!
Might just put the wife and kids on Ebay and join you. Any know how to "Photoshop"? Might need it to get a good price for the Mrs. Once again Good Luck and enjoy. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

hahaha... Lacta!!! When I was in London I tasted most of your chocolates and I believe they are much better than Lacta. But then again... I wish I could send you some. Let's hope that I will manage to travel with my Landy and visit some friend in Essex during January. Your "lacta" request will be a very good argument towards persuading my wife for this road trip. Mike. |

Dates for Croatia Trophy are out. As I have them booked off all ready. Hoping to be there on the quad spectating. I can dig the dates out for you. Have you looked at the website for this year? Someone on Gigglepin FB page announced them about a week after CT12. As for your route, why are you heading so far N into Germany?? If you cut along the South side you could call through Lux and fill up with fuel that is a lot cheaper than the rest of Euro zone. If you're going to CT13 then the Lakes are enroute if you come up the coastal route of Croatia. I went to CT11 and then back down later in the year with the Mrs. I can dig the route out on MM for you if you want. Won't have access til Oct a I'm in the sandpit til then. I can give you a list of campsites and how good they are for the area between CT11 site and the coast and up to Italy. You could do the lakes, CT13 then back to the coast, cut through Slovenia and pop into Venice to do the romantic thing. We then headed N from there and went through the ALps into Austria, then through Germany, Lux, popped into Belgium to stay with a mate of TJ101's so we could pay respect at the Menin Gate ceremony. If you do stay for the ceremony you can still make the last ferry of the day back to Blighty. Sounds like a fabulous trip. Very envious. I am going back to Croatia in Oct this year for 2 weeks. Hoping to get to Split and hopefully Dubrovnik if time allows. I will be tracing the route on MM so will have another route for you if needed. EDIT Just lifted from the Gigglepin FB page Attention !! --- ! --- Croatia Trophy 2013 => 01/05 till 09/05 2013 --- ! --- 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

IrMike, great suggestions. Some 20 years ago every summer we went from Belgium to Skiathos with our car and a small tent. Great country, great people!
I still want to visit Greece again. I was thinking about doing the Hannibal trail (France / Italy) once more, then travel to Ancona or Brindisi and take the ferry to Igoumenitsa. And maybe there are some offroad oppertunities in the mountains near Igoumenitsa. And from there........all I know so far I want to end in Skiathos, although the campsite we stayed for many years (Aselinos beach) is closed for some years now:? Officially wild camping in Greece is not allowed, but can it be done? Camping near the sea, river or lake is always great. So if you have some suggestions, they are more than welcome. |

We drove through former Yugoslavia where a police officer on a motorbike stopped our very old Fiat Panda. He told us we were speeding. That thing hardly drove 100 kmh, Mercedes, BMW, everything drove faster than us....
But, in the end we had to pay something which was nowadays about 1,5 Euro. Another time we went to Igoumenitsa by boat, and slept next to the chimney, the only place there was nobody els laying. The next morning everybody was staring at us. Our faces were covered with carbon spots. They probably thought the plague was on board THNX for your suggestions, Harald |
