Thumbs Up
Just hope I can get rid of the last 3 sets as Brendan stocks them now (which on the whole is a good thing) but I'm beginning to wish I hadn't held on so long for the last 3 members... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

No shame at all - these things happen. Just hope I don't end up paying dearly for my patience Sad
Funny thing is, when Markus said I couldn't offer the hinges on this forum any more because it would annoy the English company he was negotiating with, I didn't even consider who that company might be Laughing
It's a good thing too, as Brendan is now able to (consistently) offer a great product at a great price to great people Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

That's a pity. Since kmac only just got his, there seems to be more variation in delivery time than I would have liked Sad
Fingers crossed and have a good holiday

Matt

p.s. Just realised you are the only one in Scotland! It takes ages for my daughters to get anything in Glasgow. I expect it's just the English winding you up Wink Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

FITTING!

Apparently some members find it easier to fit the hinges onto the bonnet first and some into the curls first.
The bushes fit in the curls very snug in some Defenders and so tight in others that the "curl first" method is the only way. This will require 2 people Sad
Sorry for the irritation but I guess they were designed for Defenders like mine, not allowing for LRs "quaint variability" Rolling Eyes
Please all let me know how you get on and in the worst case I will have to try and find a fix (other than shaving the bushes). Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Very tight fit on mine. Bushes had to be hammered in to the curls from each side. The bolt would then not fit through as the bushes were not in a straight line. One bush removed, bolt fitted through the fitted bush and second USB fitted on to the end of the bolt. Bolt levered forwards to allow second bush to be hammered in to place. Nut then used on bolt to tighten bushes in to place. Hinge then just squeezes on to outside of bushes, hinge used to hold bushes in position while bolt is hammered out. Bolt is now curved.
By this stage, I realised that I would probably not be able to simply slot the bonnet with attached hinges on to the bushes.,so hinges attached to bushes and then bonnet held up against the hinges while the bolts were fitted to attach bonnet.
With mine I see no need for additional security nuts, this is not coming off in a hurry. If they have time to attack it with tools, they"LLC probably be able to deal with security bolts as well, my understanding is that it is to stop the quick lifting off of the bonnet, I was surprised how easy it was just to lift it out of the original arrangement.

It appears that the problems some people have had are probably due to thick paint or weld in the curls on some vehicles. The bushings have to be a tight fit to prevent them rattling about and if the curls are misshapen inside they won't go in.

I checked and the hinges have already been fitted to a lot of different Defenders without significant problems. Also, all of the bushings in the group-buy were hand-fitted to a MY12 to test them before I got them. Brendan is also looking into it. So in an ideal world, everything would be peachy...

Bad news is, if they don't fit after greasing the bushings, the only options are to clean up the curls with a file or to machine/sand down the bushings. Always grease the long screw before inserting it and it might help to smooth off (slightly bevel) the inside holes of the bushings to help the screw get past half way.

If the long screw gets damaged, it's M6x85mm stainless. If you can't get one, let me know and I'll sort it.

Please let me know when you fit yours if they go well and if not, photos would be good.

In any event, this group-buy WILL work and nobody's bonnet will get nicked, even if it kills me!!!

Cheers

I just opened my bonnet, and replaced one hinge at a time. I was struggling with the first until I realised that a hammer would be required! From that point on I just used an appropriate sized socket from a socket set to hold against the bush and then hit the other end to ensure the strike was fairly even. The first set of bushes went in all the way with this method, and the second set went in until there was a 5mm gap, at which point, like Inigo, I popped in the nut and bolt without the hinge to tighten them together, and once in place removed the bolt to fit the hinge. The neighbours think I'm strange for attacking my car with a hammer, but all went in easy enough! Smile Peter
