United Kingdom 2006 Defender 110 Td5 SW Epsom Green
Genuine southdown removable towbar unit
I bought a southdown fuel tank guard for my 110 a few years back but have never used the towbar unit.

It is in very good condition. Used, but good. comes with both original pins, and a 50mm ball/hitch unit.

'tis a heavy well made bit of kit. No idea what they're worth; I had a look around and couldn't find one second hand for sale, which either means they are truly rare and worths loads, or no one wants on and not worth selling Rolling with laughter

Anyway, if anyone's interested in this one, I'd be looking at about £80 to start the ball rolling.

Located in Swindon.

I've had one or two of these in the past and they were excellent bits of kit. That's a good buy especially as they are no longer making them Thumbs Up Steve.

I had one of these set ups on my old Discovery and it was excellent. I even had Southdown make me a special short version of the towing attachment with just the top pair of bolt holes for use with an off-road trailer. However, the bit for sale here is only any good of course, if you already have the matching tank guard. Darren

Don't you just hate the mongs on ebay who press the buy button then back out. Perhaps they are frightened of spending money or they've spent their pocket money on sweets and have none left for LR kit Twisted Evil 110 D250 SE HT

Perhaps they didn't realise that it was only a part of the unit and without the part that fixes to the vehicle it's pretty much useless unless you already have that bit. They're not even interchangeable between different makes - I've even seen different southdown units not being interchangeable with each other.

If you list it again on ebay maybe make it a bit clearer that this isn't of any use to anyone unless they can make a suitable receiver for it or already have one.

Not having that. It states in the description here and on fleaby that it's the detachable bit that is for sale. Nowhere does it mention that the main unit is for sale.
People jumping in with bids and then realising they'd misread the advert. Why not retract the bid rather than let themselves win and then get back feedback for non payment.

Simply pointing out, when it comes to ebay, it needs to be spelt out clearly and precisely if you want to minimise problems. IMV the ebay ad isn't clear enough to avoid problems. At no point does it state the guard isn't included, it even points out that the pins are a tight fit in the guard and don't rattle - completely irrelevant piece of information unless the guard is included as part of the "unit".

You need to look at the ad from the point of view of someone who might not know as much about the item as you do.

Obviously that doesn't rule out the original suggestion that the buyer was an idiot Smile

OK, see where you are coming from. Like you say if the ad had stated that the main guard wasn't for sale then perhaps for the idiot buyer he should of also stated the LR it was attached to wasn't included for that price as well Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter 110 D250 SE HT

Ummm.... I think the picture of JUST the towing assembly on its own, and the words in the title "Genuine southdown removable towbar unit" ought to be enough clue for most people. Rolling Eyes

Have to admit I thought your original ad on this forum was for the whole unit and when I realised it wasn't it occured to me that you'll probably struggle to sell it as who is likely to already have the guard without the towbar unit ...

Well, the ad clearly showed only the towbar unit, as did the text. maybe I need to type in simpler English for some folk. Whistle

I suspect plenty of people who (like me) bought a second hand guard may not have the towing attachment, or may have had it nicked, or might want two of them to interchange between different type of towball/hitch.

I have a spare tow bracket as well if anyone is interested Thumbs Up . Just the drop down bit, no guard unit, no LR, no bolts. Just a plain naked drop down plate.
I would post pictures but it's the same as Jamies but without the Bradley hitch 110 D250 SE HT
