Fuel quantity sensor/Valve on the back of the diesel pump? Otherwise, EGR or other fuel issue.

Doesn't really help in your circumstance but it would be well-worth the investment in a Scangauge, or another diagnostic tool...The scangauge would pay for itself first time you have any issues! EGR would be a guess as they are notoriously problematic and can cause all sorts of running issues.
There may be another Wiltshire forum member that may be able to assist perhaps? Do you have MIL (engine management) light illuminated? Quick call to dealer otherwise. real long shot this.....don't suppose its got EEG in the registration has it?
I had a blue 110 which headed off to your part of the world. it had various problems which included silicone on the wiring loom connectors and various other issues. after my recent problems my first point of call for something like this would be to check all the fuses are in place / haven't blown (easy job and if nothing else rules this out). good luck. |

I had what sounds like a similar problem a couple of years back on my 2008 2.4.
Cruising down the freeway, packed to the gunnels with family, dog and camping gear and the engine just quit. Engine would start but would quit again once you built up the rev’s. Checked fuses, fuel and all usual suspects, nothing. Tow truck job back to the dealer under warranty. I spent a bit of time with the work shop foreman when I went to pick the vehicle up after the repairs to get the low down on the fault. Being a mechanic I felt a bit stupid not being able to repair my own car. Especially with Mum and the kids stranded on the side of the road. Anyway he told me that it was a loose fuel injector connection of #4 cylinder. To this day I’m skeptical, but seeing as I’ve been out of the car trade for over twenty years. I think is plausible? Thanks for the suggestions.
The garage changed the fuel filter and a valve on the common rail of the diesel apparently and all should be fine now. |

can anyone tell me how easy it is to replace the common rail valve.....does the ecu need to go through the learn process?
what about getting air in top the fuel system (hopefully not too much of an issue being the highest point) and can anyone tell the cost of said valve ? |

The fuel rail itself has a fuel pressure (at the rail) sensor at the front, and a mechanical fuel pressure relief valve, which once activated needs to be renewed.
I suspect the OP is referring to the fuel metering valve/fuel quantity valve/volume control valve on the rear of the fuel pump. Sorry about all the names, but obviously more than one department worked on this and never decided on just one common term! The VCV is LR009837 and costs £99.84 + VAT RTS book time is 0.3, but probably more like 45 minutes to get everything out of the way to get to it. Yes, once the VCV is fitted, a calibration/pump learn needs doing. |
