sulphur in diesel
The followin text comes from the MAINTENANCE CHECK SHEET for Puma LR´s.

Who could explain the S concentration units used?

IMPORTANT - OIL CHANGE DIESEL ENGINES
If the vehicle is operated on fuel with a high sulphur content (over 0.7) the oil change intervals must not exceed 5,000Km
If the vehicle is operated on fuel with a moderate sulphur content (between 0.3 - 0.7) the oil change intervals must not exceed 10,000Km

Humm looks like %,

But I believe that a 0 is missing or are expressed in parts per thousands: Should be over 0.07% (700 ppm) for high sulphur and between 0.07% (700 ppm) to 0.03% (300 ppm) for mid ragnge sulphur.

I found this in a ZA website:

Sasol TurboDieselTM is classified as a low sulphur diesel. How does the sulphur levels compare to other diesels?
In South Africa as from January 2001 the sulphur level in diesel allowed by the national specification is 0,3 mass % maximum. This requirement lags behind that applying in first world countries where most diesel engines are developed. In Europe for instance the specification was 0,3 % in 1989 and was reduced to 0,05 % in 1995. Sasol TurbodieselTM meets the advanced requirement of vehicle manufacturers by guaranteeing a maximum sulphur level of 0,05 %.

If ppm are in mass 0.05% will be equal to 500 ppm that are in the medium range of sulphur .

Since 1990, diesel fuel with a sulfur content of 50 ppm (0.005%) has been available on the Swedish market

A number of years ago when there was talk of a lot of high pressure injection pumps failing due to lack of lubrication in the low sulphur diesel I wrote to Shell and asked whether it was safe to use their diesel in the 200 tdi. I got a reply back. It consisted of a "with compliments" slip and pages upon pages of technical data consisting of diagrams, formulae and technical jargon, but no "yes" or "no" to my question. Wonder why? Fair enough with 160,000 miles on the tdi, it does not seem to have done any harm. Still a straight forward YES or NO would have been nice! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

If you use low-sulphur diesel, i.e., 50ppm or less, make sure to add 2-stroke oil to your diesel in 1:200 ratio to boost lubricity
