Why not just leave the ladder in situ as it acts as a lightguard as well, anyway and you may revert back to a roofrack at some point ...

Doh... just realised I didn't type the rest of my original message.
![]() I plan on replacing the Expedition rack with something like a Patriot or Frontrunner. |

I'm presuming the ladder bolts to the existing rack at the top ? - In which case see if you can bolt to your new rack or find a replacement ladder that utilises the same holes
Take a look at the Hannibal ladder, it 'clamps' to the gutter at the top and picks up on the body fixing bolts at the bottom. The middle bolts to the top of the body at waist height and even if the holes dont line up with your existing it will probably cover over them |

Why? For a roof tent 2 preferably 3 roof bars are more then adequate. Roof rack Front Runner/Patriot is £700/£1200+ weighs 30 kg+ 2/3 roof bars £250- £400 weighs about 6-8 kg. So unless you have other need for a roof rack I would suggest roof bars. The Australian Rhino bars are 1500mm long whereas medium Autohome roof tent is 1400mm wide. Please be careful about choice of roof tent and roof rack as they may not always be completely compatible. For instance the Airtop has to be mounted at the front of a Patriot roof rack to get the catches to work readily. If you are going to Biling we will have some Autohome roof tents displayed, some on Patriot roof rack, some on Australian Rhino bars. Brendan |

Interesting post Brendan, lots I didn't take into account. Lots to think about.
I was leaning towards another rack, as I do use it a bit - wasn't sure if roof bars would do be as useful except for carrying a tent, but you've got me thinking along those lines as well. ![]() |
