Australia 2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Chawton White
After the MIL (check engine light) came on 400km after a major service and on day 2 of a holiday to less populated parts of outback South Australia, you bet I named it! Laughing

It is however generally know in the family as Larry the Land Rover. No idea how that one came up.

My first Defender called "NORAH". A combination of Norah Jones and Nora, the girlfirend of Dipstick in Pete Wilson's gimmick

Second Defender is called "OLIVIA"

I think the names that people give their Land Rovers (or any cars really) says more about the character of the person than the vehicle

Absolutely - one of my daughters calls her Picanto Kiki, the others Fiesta is Fifi, and their communal SatNav is "Jane" 'cos that's the name of its programmed voice.

So I've called my Defender DeeDee and kiss its chrome hinges and polish its Waxoyled chassis every night before I go to sleep.

The kids tended to pick names based on the registration numbers, however the 110 got christened Max Headroom after car park barrier signs rather than the TV character.

It fits quite well with the letters on the plate which are MXH Cool

Of course the TV character was named after the car park barriers .... Mr. Green

Upon showing the wife my 110 Hardtop I bought, she remarked it looked 'very butch' compared to other 4x4's.
So, it's always been called 'Butch'. And this was when it was standard, before I respayed it, added White steel modulars with mud tarrain tyres, Black chequer plate, A bar and 100w spots! 96 2.5 N/A LWB 110 Hardtop

Friends and colleagues called it the tractor. Once 50kg of sound isolation was installed and the radio still could be heard at 80km/h they agreed to call it something like a car.

For some obtuse reason or other my red defender is called Fred. The disco that preceded it was called magic. Personally I blame the medication. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Mine is called Zippy. It sort of tied in. I replaced an L200 with the Defender and always had a Zippy (as in Rainbow) stuck in the back window.

It was saved from a charity shop run when I realised it's a geniune toy from back in the 70s, so couldn't chuck it.

Then when I picked up the Defender, the reg has ZPB in it, so Zippy now lives in the passenger grab handle and the Defender is names Zippy! Craig Rogers
