The clip is called a P-clip you should be able to get them from most hardware/DIY shops.

Made mine out of stainless to avoid them breaking again.
Made the top one a bit longer so the guard sits a bit further out - looks slightly wonky but that doesn't bother me and the wheel doesn't foul Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Yep, as above a P clip. As regarding the gas strut. I recently got one and it's a worth while purchase I can assure you. I got mine direct from Nakatanenga and easy enough to install too. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
