To be mega-rivet countery, in 1985 it would have been sold as a "Landrover 110 crew cab (yes 110, thats not a typo)". They only became 127s in 1986 or 87 when the different body options became available (ie, it wasn't just a crew cab) then 130 when the Defender name was introduced. |

Saw that. Not my thing but all the landrover tuners had some stuff that I liked and some I didn't. It was just great to see Defenders so well represented at the FOS. My mates who came there in mine were shocked how many various defenders were on show.
Looked for Alive but couldn't find him. Twisted had a good stand and I fell in love with Nene's roof tent showing. WANT ONE. 1951 80" S1 2.0 1995 110 300TDI 1995 90 300TDI |

Er, No. In 1985 there were 3 length varients in wheelbase- the 90, 110 and 127. There may well have been a 110 crewcab but was just that - same as now - a 110 with a crew cab..... Different vehicle to the 127, as the 127 is 127 wheelbase, not 110. Originally, however, the 127 wasn't a standard production model, but an 'extended' 110 chassis, extended in house at Solihull by Land Rover Special Vehicles. I believe that the '130' is actually still a 127 wheelbase but LR renamed it 130 when the Defender name came in (as I stated before). It is now, of course, a standard production chassis built specifically as a 130 (127) from scratch, rather than being an extended 110 chassis... Last edited by Pam W on 2nd Jul 2012 10:30am. While not liking it, I didn't realise how imposing a 130 in black could be.
Alive had a car on another stand along with some modded Jags. Also had a wheel on that I'd not seen before, I've a pic somewhere. It was good to see so many Defenders in various states. Nene had a 3.0 tdv6 and 3.2tdi conversion on display though never saw under the bonnet. Overfinch had a Defender that was nicley finished inside , but a hideous amount of money. Twisted had a nice selection, and will be at CLA Game fair. I didn't realise that the Double Cabs were also referred to on one stand as the 'Lambo' cab , I assume because of the similarity to the Lamborghini LM002..hmm Stu |

I think Dan is right. Despite the 127 inch wheelbase, when first introduced they were initially marketed as "One Ten Crew Cab". I don't think that name lasted long though and they soon became "Land Rover 127". The only on-line reference I can find is on THIS WIKIPEDIA PAGE, but I remember reading the detail in a book ages ago. Can't remember which one though, of course As for the vehicle in the OP, I can't see what the fuss is about. Non of us are their target audience. In the States they're very much a niche product and can command high prices. If they've found a way to legally export them to willing buyers then good luck to them - export revenue is good for the economy Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Point taken, however, the early 127s were not 'marketed' as 110s as they were Special Vehicles builds and therefore built to order, rather than sold through the marketing and dealer network. The confusion comes as they had to be registered as 110s on their log books. So in my opinion this 'history' of 127s from the 1985 year means that the OP Black monstrosity (!) is every MORE dodgy to be 'marketed' by this dealer as a 130. The chassis should be an extended 110 one, and the log book should probably also say 110! It is horrid and if anyone is daft enough to pay then |

Its vehicles like this, being brought into the USA, that are making me really really nervous about what Customs is going to be like when I try to get my 1989 into the country in 2014. They are going to get so sick of slicky boys skirting the rules by then.
I've got changes like a 300tdi and richards galv chassis that are making me think I might have issues on return with this thing. I paid more then most people here would for it due to the add-ons and changes. I fear I might be losing out on this one... |

For 'marketed', read 'described' or just 'called'. The problem is that it's only us anoraks that care. To most, it's a 130 in the same way that all pre-1990 Land Rovers are Defenders - a sin that even Land Rover are guilty of. Darren

I don't own an anorak, but I might as well... My info was derived from James Taylors book LAND ROVER 60 years of the 4x4 workhorse, which gives year by year updates on the various models. Although the vehicle was physically on a 127" wheelbase it was indeed "called" a One Ten Crewcab - Taylor is quite clear on this point. The initial plan was actually to offer the vehicle on a 135" wheelbase but the lack of a long enough off the shelf rear propshaft brought about the length reduction. The vehicles were initially cut and lengthened 110s as Pam said, then they had purpose-made chassis. It was only at this point they got unique VINs and a grille badge, earlier ones had had the silver badge used on the stage 1 V8. These badges were actually plastic, not metal as wikipedia claims. I'm not 100% what the situation is now, I had heard they had gone back to lengthening 110 chassis. Another bit of info - there were no UK built 110 crew cabs (double cabs as we call them) until the TD5 era. EDIT - Here is Taylors full write-up.
