Been quite adept at managing his laminitic tendancies over the years, his last bad episode was about 8 years ago in Febuary and he was stabled all winter. The trigger was traced to some quality hay that he was given, just enough to start him off and of course not realising at the time he kept been given it which was making him worse! My vet got the bit between his teeth(so to speak) and has become quite an expert on laminitis. It is now treated much along the lines of Type 2 Diabetis and keeping stress levels down has helped immensely. the pony only used to have about a week in which his winter coat had shed before he'd start growing it back so for the summer months he is clipped out completely and doing this has really helped plus it's a lot easier to keep an eye on his weight along with plenty of room to move around. |
