Just wondered if there is any reason not to go for a Paddocks/Britpart intercooler? The ad says they're 30% bigger than standard and I guess build quality is okay?
Reason is it would cost me around 400 quid including delivery c.f. e.g. 1700 Euro + p&p from Matzker. Also, how hard is it to fit one? I have aircon from new and I'm fairly handy Thanks for any advice. Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. I avoid anything with the ****part name on like the plague unless it is simple fastener type things.
Anything else I have purchased with their name on has been poor quality or never fits. Have a word with a forum sponsor about an intercooler. If the quality of their radiators is anything to go by, I'd avoid. My old Td5 Britpart replacement radiator lasted about 6 months before peeing coolant everywhere. I'd lost the receipt, just to add insult to injury

My Britpart Intercooler lasted 6 months in order to leak at the day I wanted to start a three weeks round trip here in the Andes. Luckily I still had the original at home, because the local dealer in Chile does not have spare parts.
It takes 3 hours to fit, the manual describes pretty well how to do it. I just changed the two bolts with threads to the left and right holding I think the bonnet lock (what the hell do I know how you call a Gewindestift in English) to proper bolts. Can't check it because the car is the fith time with the dealer to fix the heating as winter is coming. The importer in Austria where I bought the IC to get the VAT back still did not react on warranty after another 6 months... BR Oskar |

I have been considering the installation of an upgraded intercooler for some time. Allisport was the general 'favoured cooler of choice' but the recent pulling of the advertisement off of E-Bay to 'clear the backlog' and the apparent shortage in the UK of decent aluminium TIG welders I decided to extend my search a little further.
A phonecall earlier in the year explained to me that there were some top quality Austrian Engineered intercoolers in the offing and that they would be worth the wait but would come at a premium. Being a great advocator and believer in 'You get what you pay for' I decided to wait. Serck were available but I resisted the temptation. Made a subsequent call earlier in the week to see if and when they would be available. I was also after a set of silicone hoses as well. Phonecall made I was informed first batch were in and that (after a little persuasion) a set of stainless steel interconnecting hard-pipes with silicone attachments were possibly to be had too. 12 hours to strip and fit, claret all over the engine bay due to hands being cut to shreds, but am I happy? Hell yes! Great advice and photographs for the fitment from a fellow forum member. You know who you are and yet another BIG THANK YOU to the member concerned. Photographs speak a thousand words so here's a few against a stock intercooler as comparison. Starting of course with the arrival of a very well packaged parcel.....Worth the wait as excellently engineered and finished. The service from Gary at Alive was top notch too, with update when package was being sent and when arrival could be expected. Not so friggin' little when you've got a radiator and airconditioning rad to attempt to sandwich it between. My hands will bare witness to that as will all the O Pos deposited all over the engine bay......But yes! Well worth the wait and effort!
