One suggestion. I have the same OEM soft "A"bar fitted from when my car was new. On page 4/7 picture 14 of the instructions which are posted here, if I were you I would not use the screws delivered by LR, but use SS screws instead. In my case when Autobritt, the local LR dealers fitted my A bar, they used the accompanying little screws, but within a few weeks with rain they were rusting. They were immediately replaced by SS screws and now 3 years later all still is fine. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Thanks for the help, I've another question though.
What on earth is the heavy metal bar shown in pictures 15, 16, and 17 for? I've got the installation kit and that bar is part of it. It's a steel piece about 6 inches long, no holes or thread just a non slip area around the middle. I'm stumped for it's use though. |

It goes into the OEM screw jack to extend it to reach the chassis jacking hole when the A bar is fitted. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I too have brought he A bar and wondered what the bar was and went to look for the jack and could not find it behind seat as shown in pics but in my double cab the seats don't tilt forward and no jack !!!!!!!
But on returning inside I checked hand book which said I have a bottle jack in the battery box (not checked yet ) but why waste this part in the fixing kit |

Top brackets are plastic. I replaced mine with the powder coated stainless jobbies from Mantec (see http://www.mantec.co.uk/productdetail.cfm?...D3F73697). They are more than strong enough for mounting a UHF antenna or sand flag.

Will it fit with a plate steering guard instead of the tube LR OEM? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

They supply the fitting kit with that part included because they don't know if the purchaser will have a bottle jack or pillar jack because the same A Bar is sold for TD5 and Puma models - will fit Tdis as well. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

Hi folks,
Bought a 2nd hand A-bar on eBay. It came with everything except the part highlighted. How critical is this part, is it just for the lights? Click image to enlarge Is it a steal part, or plastic part? I might have a go and make something up. Thanks in advance. Cheers Andy |
