Remove the screws, stereo, disconnect the switches (pop them out aswell) and pull it off...its not that hard.
As for the door cover...similar thing - it has push in trim clips, trim removal tool and pull - prepare to replace. There are some screws, door handle and if you have the window winder. Thats about it. Mike |

Mk sorry to change the topic, I'm trying to find out what those screws are called that are on the defender dashboard any idea? Its the funny shaped ones? But I need a much bigger size for the front bumper? I have tried B&Q but no luck, anyone know where I can get the different sizes? Cheers '08 LR Defender 110

They are called Torx, sort of a funny star shape. Do not confuse with spine.
You should be able to buy a cheap set of torx bits from a market stall type tool shop. If you need to know the exact size, let me know & I will try my bits till one fits, won't be till tommorow though. Torx normally go up in 5s e.g. torx 10,15,20,25,30..... My guess (witout looking and from memory) is they are probably torx 30, but don't buy one based on my guess!! Halfords also sell torx drivers singley. You will also find that allen keys will fit torx heads, not recommended but it can get you out of trouble if needed in an emergency. Some also have a pip in the middle, they are tamper proof torx. Look in your microwave oven at the bulb cover, they quite often have these fitted. Gawd knows why.... |

Cheers niglyn i'm an idiot with tools and technical stuff unfortunately I want to buy all the sizes in a box set but haven't come across one yet, just been browsing over this website http://torx.org.uk/tag/stanley/ which shows the different sizes you have mentioned above. I saw the allen keys too going to get that too. Please let me know if I'm looking at the right screws? I tell you I source all my tools, car accessories (meguiars and swisswax) and land rover parts and accessories from the uk cause back in dubai they dont have a wide range and if they do its triple price even without VAT. Eg. Just for the front mudguards the land rover dealer wants 50 quid incl. labour and here I bought an extra pair for 16 quid. But land rovers are much cheaper to buy in dubai than uk plus we get a standard 5 year 100,000km warranty Cheers mate much appreciated. How to pop the switches out...remove the ratio - stick your hand in and push them out then you can disconnect them and remove.
As for Torx - Halfords sell the full set for sure as do most places, Maplin sell kits aswell (smaller types to go into scewdriver type) Mike |
