I've not filled up yet so not sure - will fill up on my way home (assuming I don't run out before I get to the garage !! Embarassed )

if I can can 75 ltrs in (which I doubt) then it'll be c 30.5 mpg however I suspect 70 ltrs will be closer to the mark and therefore it equates to 32.25 mpg.......and I think there's still room for a little improvement on that - almost forgot to mention this last tank included c100 miles with the sankey on the back loaded up.

Low speed is the key, plus a steady long haul with no gear changes. Once bought a cattle truck up near Perth Scotland, GF had to follow me back to South Wales in our old 200 tdi Disco. Max speed 60 with most at 55, but all pretty constant. Brim to brim fill on disco with GPS confirmed mileage gave a mpg of 38.4 mpg. The lorry was nowhere near!!

huh never achieved more than 27. Usually its more like 24-25 and I rarely go over 60mph. But then again I don't really try and I just lurve the sound of that Puma engine when you give it some beans.
Each to their own but a re-map has never appealed to me. More than happy with the performance and after 13000 kms its really started to loosen up. Plus I'm not sure the drivetrain can take much more welly than the standard tune delivers and on todays crowded roads whats the point ? But everyone has their own ideas about what to do with their Defender

chuffed yet not so chuffed.
filled up earlier and got 72.19 ltrs in after 501.1 miles. right up to the neck this time so possibly a little more in than last time (but only a very little and not enough to make much of difference).

so if my maths serve me right that'll be 31.5 mpg - not too bad and certainly better than some.

so if you're doing 25 mpg I guess I'm saving almost £25 per tank Shocked I like the idea of that Very Happy

welcome to the club of the not-really-much-fuel-eater Wink ! My 90 has only 60 Liters of fuel storage, so I am going to 450 http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic13439.html instead of the 500, but I am happy with it. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

It's not the mpg but the radius. I do about 90 miles per day...
May one day just add an extra fuel tank but atm I cannot justify the cost and not shure about the effect/safety when offroading. Not that I do extreme stuff, but maybe one day I will, when the car is older.

This is dependant.

If you have owned the car from new then I would suggest dropping it nice and low every few fills- it will prevent the build up of cr@p in the tank. Then when you change the fuel filter it is disposed of.

I had a Kia in the other day- had done 50,000 miles where the guy never let it go below 1/2 tank- he then went just below 1/4 as the fuel station was closed for a few days- the filter blocked up straight away. After draining what was left in the tank there was about a jam jars worth of sandy grit and contaminated fuel that was sat at the bottom just waiting to spoil his day.

If buying 2nd hand and you are unaware of its past then be more cautious- maybe even drain the tank to make sure there isn't anything lurking at the bottom.

The dirt/ cr@p doesn't get sucked up into the fuel system- it goes about 30cm into the filter where it is captured. The TDCi doesn't even have a pump in the tank to damage.

couldn't agree more. I nearly always run my tanks dry (less trips to the garage which saves time and money) and prevents the build up of muck.

never had a problem yet and as you say - there's a filter to catch any muck, but potentially you need to aware of what you found recently.

Also, are the people with completely standard vehicle taking the reading from their ODO?

I ask because when I fitted my 285/75/16 it bought the ODO and GPS speed to exactly the same. this meant that with the standard tires it was reading high (which all vehicles do by 5-10%).

So........with the standard LR tires, if I drove 500miles on the ODO- I in fact only drove about 450-475 miles. Which will be enough to bring the MPG down by about 1 or 2mpg.
