Awning skirt.
Thought I would share how I attach the awning wheel skirt cover without drilling and screwing on the poppers.

I bought several large suckers from a company on the bay and then using stainless steel screws fixed the stud onto the sucker.

The suckers stick onto the side of the van with no issues except for on my new van there is a reflector in the way stopping one of the suckers from fixing. Turned out it was not needed. As my last and current van is a twin axle I managed to get a suitable wheel cover from Isabella and it needed 5 suckers. A single axle cover would only need three.

As you can see a lot of strain was put on the suckers, yet they do not come off.

Very impressive Brian Thumbs Up And a great looking outfit youve got.

Some vans have press studs on the side panel for the wheel awning skirt to attach to. I guess new vans dont have these nowadays?

Cheers Steve, Thumbs Up

The studs come with a new awning and chances are that a previous owner fixed them onto your van. I was always worried about the 6 year water ingress warranty being voided if I fitted the studs the way they are supposed to be fitted. After all there is no sealant used in the instructions for fitting, but I would like to think if I did do it the official way I would coat the screw and stud face in sikaflex before fitting. Then again, I cant face drilling five holes in my vans body just yet Shocked

Agreed, no way would i drill into a new van. Shame the manufacturers dont factory fit them. Im now paranoid my studs might need resealing Shocked

You mention Sikaflex, would you recommend this for rebonding my friends awning rail back on as the original sealant is failing?

I use it on the boats and cant fault it. It is an adhesive that flexes which is what you are after on a caravan as the whole body shell does move in transit and with hot and cold weather. The boats flex as they are fibreglass and sikaflex is used to bond panels, fill in holes, seal bungs, cover outboard mounting bolts and nuts etc etc.
There is specific caravan sealant which is flexible though so may be worth investigating first? Also when the rail is refitted using the original size of mounting screws they may offer some movement due to flexing damage depending on the age of the van, so a flexible adhesive sealant may be a better option than going up a screw size? Just my thoughts Thumbs Up

thanks Lorryman
that's one of those 'why didn't I think of that ?' ideas. For years I've always kept the same bits of velcro stuck to the caravan (with the corresponding bit on the wheel cover) but of course they look unsightly and manky after a while !
