GPS was placed in its bracket in the windshield and left in the sun. The battery overheated and exploded!

I was genuinely expecting another picture of a car in a river or house or something... Not this!!! I always put mine away though when it's parked up, I'm far more scared of the window being smashed to steal it!

They won't you know. I've been in the electronics design industry a long time, and although some international standards call for some tolerance against internal temperature rise to be designed in, it's not much. Certainly no where near what the sun can provide through a car window on a sunny day. I never leave anything battery powererd in the sun in the car, especially LiPo or Lion powered as these are the worst kind. LiPo batteries need little provocation to let go. They can explode if simply dropped. Pere |

The daughter of our 'neighbours' at work asked me to 'update' the maps on her satnav and when I connected it to their website I got a warning message telling me the satnav had been recalled as there was a danger of the internal battery overheating - I was instructed to disconnect, let it run flat and then package it up to be collected - three days later we received a brand new one with latest maps delivered by courier ....
