Recovery Companies
Got my renewal note for a national recovery company.

Checked on line and a new member would get it cheaper. If I joined another company would also be cheaper.

One phone call 0800 number, got £10 knocked off and 15 months instead of 12 months cover. So well worth while for that phone call. Not worthwhile doing a change of company.

Had the same when my AA cover came up for renewal ... told them i was 'off' as it was far too dear, as a result i got joint cover for Doris and i, with Relay for £79 ... original renewal quote was £129 Rolling Eyes

Always worth calling their bluff lol, they do try to keep your custom Thumbs Up Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

As above, AA renewal for me and the wife was £159, £99 for new customers online, and there was nowt to stop me cancelling and re-joining. So I put this to them on the phone and within a few seconds it was down to £99. They're just trying it on.

This was mentioned on the radio last Friday, the AA renewal price is set at what they think they can get away with, there is huge room for bartering.

The summary was that it is much more expensive for them to find another customer than to keep you as one....  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Take a look at 'ADAC' - German company that use RAC in the UK - 89euros for myself & Mrs on ANY vehicle regardless of size or weight, trailer etc with FULL european cover - it's what all the Campervan guys use ....

Just a thought (but I've not done this myself yet)...

You can buy RAC cover with your Tesco clubcard points:

http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=200

Makes it pretty cheap I think.

(BTW this is not a plug for Tesco, I'm not a fan through choice, just necessity!) Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Have you had call to use ADAC for a recovery? Off to Italy in September and need breakdown cover, but slightly concerned about this 50 miles / 80km recovery limit as reported on other sites/forums.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Hi Martin,

Only once, at the first Overlanders meet in York (three years ago ?)

We 'stopped proceeding' in York town centre on the way home (turned out to be crap in the fuel tank), RAC turned up, tried to fix it and eventually relayed us home to Kent ....

(That was in a Foley pop top 300 TDi 110)

My wife and I do this. As Tescos points are effectively free money, we haven't paid for RAC membership for years Smile Darren

Just to stick my oar in - ADAC are brilliant - very friendly, mostly speak English and even coughed up for three nights in an Austrian hotel... for my wife, me and our 4 kids Shocked
Premium never seems to change for old or new members.

What is brilliant is that Gold cover "protects" you in any car you're travelling in, i.e. they will come and fix a complete stranger's car as long as you're sitting in it!

If RAC are anything like ADAC Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

3 years - but it doesn't include any trailer or caravan. John
