No punchline, but as far as pickups go it shows you the comparative choices available after Land Rover i.e. none. I suppose the New Ranger is about the best of a bad bunch and falls (for me) well short of what I need. Surely Land Rover must see this soon and bring out a world class DCPU. Basically if you want a pick up that actually can tow something, works offroad and has plenty of after market gear then it's a Land Rover or nothing. I could be tempted by one - the thing that annoys me about it though, is like the HiLux you can't specify the three litre engine in base spec! I don't want nasty side steps! (Don't get me wrong, I'm sticking with the Defender). Peter

and another thing:
At the moment I have a 110SW. I believe I can turn it into a DCPU and back again if I want (see other thread). Try can-opening a Ford Ranger and see where it gets you... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

My mate has one and whenever we go green laning he automatically puts a strap on the front recovery eye then into the cab via the passenger window. Click image to enlarge As does the guy in the L200 Click image to enlarge And the Duck Shed Click image to enlarge However the Landrovers inc a D3 don't require these measures. Says it all really Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge 130's have feeling's as well you know |

Realistically how many people actually do that with theirs though .1%? I think people buy DCPU for specific reasons, and that is to carry goods and passengers. Very few people would buy a Hilux, Ranger etc and then want the rear integrated with the front cab. Owning both pickups currently, a TD5 90 and a Hilux invincible, I am saddened to report that the Hilux is worlds and I mean worlds apart. As a life long Land Rover fan my 90 is really quite crap when you actually compare it to the Hilux. I will always keep the 90 and plan on doing loads of engine upgrades to it, but it's relegated to a play thing and is left in France. I would never buy another Defender now that I have experienced a Hilux, but equally I would never like to be without my 90. I guess its a vehicle that gets under your skin, but is probably seen like that by life long LR fans so is not much of a business case for LR to take forward. Fair play to them for wanting to change things. Nick 2.2 110 Tipper |

AndrewS has proof of why you'd need a big winch or a land rover along with you The new 2012 Ranger has a locking rear diff but when it engages it switches off the traction control Why. Still nothing to compare with the Land Rover for all round capability. As for the Hilux struggles to get up some of our hills in the wet without either loading the rear or switching to alledged four wheel drive. Definitely a big market opening for Land Rover. Really looking fwd to seeing if the DC100 will have a pickup version. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

My boss was looking at the pictures of the new Ranger friday, he has a Hilux invicable they look very simular. Are they the same body just with diferent grills etc. I haven't driven it but have been a passenger in it, i don't think it rides on the road as well as my 90.
