Fitting a side fuel tank to 110
ok, have one of these (had it a while actually) just thinking about fitting it!

Anyone on here fitted one who could show me some pictures of where the balance pipe should enter the existing std tank?

i am struggling to see where to fit it where it is not exposed on the fwd edge but can be lower the output on the side tank. Cheers

Why don't you go for a gravity tank? Simple, no fuss with extra pump, etc? --

i have a gravity tank, only issue is the output which feeds the main tank is not at the bottom of it, hence requirement for a balance pipe. Cheers

Why not fit a small external fuel pump to transfer the fuel between the 2 tanks. Not an ideal solution but better than snagging exposed pipes 110 D250 SE HT

Hi James, sorry has been hectic at moment with the aftermath of a show but have managed to take a few photos for you.

Not the easiest thing to photo the pipes with chassis/tank guards etc.

Black 110 has a 120 litre main tank plus wing tank

The 300 TDi has been on for many years with no problems.

Excellent, thank you Brendan.

the photos show it as i had imagined it would have to go when i offered the parts up.

i was trying to come up with a more protected route and am yet to source one. I am also not too keen on drilling into the original plastic tank! Cheers

With a plastic tank to get the fitting in place, after drilling the hole, pass a wire through the hole and fish it out at the pump opening. Slide the fitting along the wire and out of the hole

Have never had problems with the pipes from the wing tank, and as you are aware we do drive off tarmac.

Before people consider a wing tank, please consider the state of your main tank. If the main tank is getting past its better, rather then adding a wing tank it may be better to consider a new larger main tank as it may be a cheaper option.

if the output from the aux tank to the main tank is not at the very bottom of the aux tank you end up with a residual amount of fuel - 5-8L on a side tank? stuck in the aux tank below the output.

the balance pipe is a pipe (small bore) that runs from a point lower than the large output to the main tank.

consider its roll opposite to the breather in function and locations. Cheers
