Where to fit a CB Radio ?
Hi all,
Has anybody fitted a unit into their Puma?
If so, where did you find the best place to locate it please?

Cheers,
Froggy. Flying the flag in a country full of Toyota's!

Thanks Chaps.

They look ideal.
I will have a look to see if there is anything similar locally.

If not, it's that big suit case when I am home in June!!

Cheers,

I fit my radio in that storage with the rubber mat in front of the front passenger. I ran thick cables from the battery to the front engine bay where I fitted a 6 blade heady duty fuse box. I did this to give power for my spots and for anything else needing an isolated power source in the engine bay that is properly fused.

From here I go back through the firewall to the (tray area) where my radio sits. From here it's also easy to feed a cable for the antenna to the front. There is a huge rubber grommet thing at the firewall with unused (nipples) that you simply cut off and feed through to create a nice watertight seal to the engine bay. I did it this way cause I wana take out the radio some times when I don't use it.

Thanks Marius.
Something else to think about and a cheaper option.

Midland hand held wired up using Lucar connectors (all properly done and insulated) via the little black box that resides in the cubby box to keep alternator noise down. CB residies in front of the cubby box. Only plugged in when needed on green lane runs and such, so not much of an issue with a secure fitting.

Handheld was bought as I could use it in my IIa and not worry about wiring it up for positive earth and with no roof on it the rubber duck works well.

I mounted my CB on the side of the cubby between the drivers seat and the cubby. Its slightly forward so the knobs are in Easy reach of my arm thats resting on the cubby but just behind the cup holder section.

It's a Uniden 7700 (may be Australia only) and it takes up barely any space. I don't bump it or anything.

I have it on the cubby box and it can be locked away out of sight like the FCX one. You can see a photo of it on this thread. I bought mine long before I knew about FCX.
