Laptop Mounting
Has anyone mounted a laptop on the passenger side of the dash?

Is it a custom job or has someone invented a "proper" one yet?

Thinking about doing it, obviously need a converter too.

RAM mounts do various device holders.

It all depends on size and weight of your lap top

RAM 243 holds a lot of lap tops. Minimum ball size would be C or 1.5"

If your lap top is heavy go up to D or 2.25" ball

Then you will need a base and arm to go with it.

PS If you are going to Driffield at the weekend, come along and see our vehicles as we have various Ram mounts in them

hi Sam

Like Brendan says RAM Mount are the biz.

In a nut shell you'll need a "tray" to hold the tablet/computer/ipad, then an arm and finally the fitting to connect to your truck, really depends on your dashboard or where you are planning on mounting it

I had 2 in my 90 but have taken one out. I have one mounted on my cubby (loc-box) and one on the passenger grab handle (going to be repositioned and used to mount a camera)

I bought 3 different mountings and physically tried each one then returned the parts i did not use.

There's a few threads on the forum, search "ram mount"

Hi Brendan,

Looking at the range of RAM mounts is frying my brain! What would you recommend for 15" Laptop? I like the sound of mounting it on the left hand grab handle, so it would be accessible from the passenger seat and viewable from the driver's, but (I think) still quite discrete when not in use/you take the massive platform off! Idea being that I could use a converter from the cigarette lighter to run the charger and then work from there. An idea of cost would be ace too if you can, I can't find anything on your site. Good things come to the wild and free

A couple of things for you to consider and play around with.

Lap top what level do you want it below say top of grap handle?

How heavy is your laptop and it's thickness?

Have you got a metal cubby box? That might provide a solid fixing and might work out cheaper. What height do you want it above mounting point on cubby box.

What sort of driving will you be doing with laptop open? Just on road use, or extreme offload.

Also need to bear in mind that laptop does not get in way of gear stick.

I would like it so the screen is above the dash if that makes sense, so the keyboard below the dashboard.

Thickness of base/keyboardy bit; 2.5cm
Total thickness (shut); 4cm
Weight; 5lb 11'

It's actually 14.7cm x 10cm

No - standard exmoor type thing.

Exactly what laptop have you got? Reason why I ask is the dimensions that you have given does not seem right to me.

14.7 x 10cm seems rather small. 14.7 x 10" yes

So am going to assume inches, 4 cm thick also seems large but there again I am use to Apple Macs.

With Ram mounts you basically need a device holder, arm and a base.

The two possible laptop holders are

1) TOUGH TRAY UNIVERSAL LAPTOP HOLDER C/W ANGLED CLAMPS RAM 234-3 Look HERE

Since you are using the laptop with vehicle in motion also a locking kit RAM-234-LK2. Look here

The other choice of laptop holder is

2) TOUGH TRAY UNIVERSAL LAPTOP HOLDER C/W FLAT CLAMPS RAM 234-3FL look HERE

Again a locking kit RAM-234-SNM look HERE

The device holder needs a mount base with 1.5" ball RAM 202 ROUND BASE WITH AMPS HOLE PATTERN AND 1.5" BALL
Look HERE

Then an arm such as DOUBLE 1.5" BALL SHORT SOCKET ARM RAM 201 B. Look HERE

To attach it to the grab handle how about BASE WITH BALL AND STRAPS RAM 108 B Look HERE

Hope that helps

Your right about the measurements Embarassed

It's all food for thought though. The other option is getting something made. My current idea is a "hook over" type thing that clamps to dash top and clips into the slot between the dash and the windscreen. Probably then some sort of tray with sides that the laptop sits in and a over keyboard strap affair.

I'll think about it some more and get back to you mate, really helpful - thanks very much! Good things come to the wild and free
